Two Carey Girls Injured In Crash Near Upper Sandusky
Ellen Powers 16 and Mary Marine 17, passengers in a car driven by William Lambrite 17, were seriously injured when the vehicle left County Road 124 five miles north of Upper Sandusky. Powers suffered multiple injuries and was moved from Wyandot Memorial to University Hospital Columbus. Marine has a broken shoulder and facial injuries but with satisfactory progress. The sheriff cited high speed as the cause. companions Lambrite and James Cook 17 were treated for concussions and scalp lacerations.

Poppy Day Emphasizes War Dead Memorial and Aid
Poppy Day on May 24 highlights the poppy as a memorial flower of America’s war dead. The poppies are made by ill and handicapped veterans in hospitals and homes and sold by the American Legion Auxiliary to fund welfare for hospitalized veterans and needy veterans and their families. From May 1957 to May 1958 Unit 344 of the Auxiliary contributed to hospitals, child welfare and community services, including Chillicothe VA Hospital, Dayton VA Hospital, Cincinnati VA Hospital, Brecksville VA Hospital, Sandusky Soldier and Sailors Home, and local charities such as Red Cross and Easter Seals.

Junior Y Teens Bid Farewell to Seniors in May Meeting
On May 5 the Junior Y-Teen members held a farewell for the Seniors in Mrs Leathers room. Linda Wise opened the meeting as decorations and a window scene highlighted the Seniors. Each Senior identified personal articles and Junior girls presented gifts before Mrs Newhard spoke and a memory gift from the Seniors was given by Carol Coppler. Refreshments followed.
