Bank Robbery at Vanlue Early Wednesday

The Vanlue bank was robbed early Wednesday morning. The door was jimmed and paper littered the floor after yeggmen blew the outer gate with nitro glycerine but did not steal the inside safe. Little damage occurred and no money is missing. only a few stamps were taken, with outside envelopes left intact. No clues or witnesses.

Escort Regiment of 4th Ohio Guard in Parade

The 166th regiment, formerly the 4th Ohio National Guard, served in the Spanish American War. Members who served acted as escort to the regiment in a parade Saturday. Superintendent C. M. Beitler was among the escorts. The old 4th served in Porto Rico.

Death in Cleveland Fostered by Window Dispute

B F Maskey a former Nevada resident now in Cleveland was killed in a quarrel over a window in their apartment. Shadrack and Maskey argued about closing it as a draft exposed Maskey. Shadrack shot Maskey in the abdomen killing him. Shadrack is held for murder in the first degree.

Sol Ruiffing Returns Home From Overseas

Solomon Ruiffing son of Mr and Mrs Frank Ruffing arrived home Friday from Camp Sherman after eight months service overseas with the South Infantry division. He was ready for action when the armistice was signed and came home with the 35th Division.

Early May Snow and August Frost Hit Wyandot County

A weather note recalls four inches of snow on May 22, 1883, amid a wet cold spring. A heavy frost on August 28 damaged corn crops, nearly wiping out the harvest in Wyandot County.

Homecoming of Clyde Howard Ends Service Duty

Clyde Howard returns home Friday evening after two years in the 166th Infantry with Company L. He joined the Sycamore unit, transferred to the Rainbow Division, and served with the 160th and the 42nd. He faced trench foot and hospital time but remained with the 165th through most of the service. He was linked to Herbert Hahn, known for loan drive fame, who received a $1000 bond while in a wheel chair in New York City.

Paul Schubert Returns on 48 Hour Camp Sherman Furlough

Paul Schubert came home from Camp Sherman on Saturday for a 48 hour furlough and spent Sunday with his mother Mrs N C Schubert near Vanlue. He returned to Carey Sunday afternoon and had supper with his sister and brother in law J A Newcomer, Fern Miller Biglick Hilda Rangeler Ridge and Meason. Ernest and Harry Schubert of near Vanlue were also guests. Paul left for Camp Sherman Sunday evening and expects to receive his discharge later this week.

Sheriff sale of Dipert house and lot in Carey

In the Elmer Eler versus Carey F Dipert et al suit Sheriff C J Orwig conducted a saturday sale at 2 pm at the west door of the court house. A parcel of land in Carey appraised at 1000 dollars sold to Samuel Hier for one dollar. The property is the house and lot at the corner of North and Patterson streets occupied by the Dipert family.

Ladies Aid Divides In Pink And Blue Fund Drive

The Ladies Aid of the United Brethren church splits into two sections the pinks and the blues to raise funds for a new church. The pinks plan a bake sale Saturday at the cream station with Miss Mildred Houghter as manager. Wyandot county over-subscribed its Victory Loan quota. the local surplus is reported at $260,500 while the national surplus exceeds a million dollars. Nationwide figures include fifteen million subscribers and 6.6 billion dollars, with the appeal to raise 4.5 billion dollars.

Centralization Carries in Sycamore Vote on Schools

Sycamore and vicinity voters approved centralization of schools with 324 ballots cast and a 134 vote majority. The bond issue of 33000 dollars passed by 79, while over 100 village residents did not vote. The rural voters supported the measures per the Sycamore Leader.
