Fire destroys rear of Donelson & Son restaurant
Early Tuesday at 3 39 am a fire in the rear shed of Donelson and Son's restaurant consumed 600 pounds of sugar 300 pounds of lard and 300 in tobacco while 10000 cones burned Just inside the back door The blaze damaged the tin shop next door and could have spread along Vance street if not for quick action by residents The fire department with its arrival brought the flames under control in ten minutes The loss is estimated at 3000 for the restaurant plus several hundred for the building owned by C Steinmetz.

Ladies Aid contest reports final tallies for church fund
At a United Brethren church Ladies Aid meeting Mrs. Jesse Hart hosted the Purple and Pink Sides report on a yearlong contest for church funds. The Purple Side won by 92 cents with 304.28 raised while Pink Side totaled 2303.36 though active work lasted seven months. The group used many methods and strong effort to earn the money.

Otto Young, an engineer at the Carey Mill, built a shed behind the mill using his left hand and the stump of his right arm. He held nails in his teeth and drove them with the hammer, completing the frame with minimal help to prove a man can work despite losing a limb.
