Carey Band Dads Night Honors Youth Musicians

Under director Lewis Hawk the Carey Cadet and Junior Bands performed 14 selections in the high school auditorium on Monday May 2. The event featured specialty numbers by student groups and a reception in the band room followed by a monthly Band Mothers meeting led by president Mrs Leo Beagle.

Sycamore Couple Buy The Mathias Root Beer Stand

Mr and Mrs Harry Corn Sycamore purchased the Mathias Root Beer Stand and adjoining ground on Route 23 east of Carey from Mr and Mrs Edward Mathias and took possession May 1. The new owners will be helped by Mrs Cole, Sycamore High School home economics teacher, and by Mrs Loraine Wall, former owner of the Airport Drive In in Upper Sandusky. The Coles will reside in Sycamore.

Tractor Accident Injures Joseph Kessler Near Carey

Joseph Kessler 33 was seriously hurt Saturday when thrown from a tractor while plowing 3 miles northeast of Carey on Route 09. A plow point pierced his chest and leg, with possible punctured lung. he was treated at Blanchard Valley Hospital after ambulance transport. Witness Mrs Willis Walters reported the machine struck an obstacle, and condition improved by Wednesday as X rays were planned.

Carey Board Names John E. Donaldson as Coach

John E. Donaldson of Xenia was employed as head football and assistant basketball coach for Carey for the coming school year. He is a 1949 Ohio State graduate pursuing a master’s degree and has Navy radioman service. Carey High’s 1955 football schedule lists games from Sept 16 to Nov 11 with all home games at Memorial Park.

Carey's May schedule includes band banquet on May 9 and Commencement on May 24 with events through May 27 Closing Day. At Bowling Green State University on April 29 Carey students participated in National Business Entrance Tests majoring in Typing Bookkeeping Shorthand and were recognized for top grades. Sports Day at BGSU featured twelve GAA seniors with demonstrations and competitions.

Jack W Tracy Installed as Fairfield District Scout Chairman

Jack W. Tracy of Lancaster was installed as Fairfield District Boy Scout chairman at the district banquet on April 28. He heads a group serving about 1,000 boys and 500 adult leaders. Tracy is a Carey High School and Ohio State University graduate, president of the Ohio State Alumni Association, and a Lancaster YMCA director. He and his wife live with six children at 149 East Mulberry Street.

Pre School Visitation Set For May 13 at Carey Schools

Carey village council reviewed six ordinances on traffic and disturbing the peace with several readings planned. Ordinances 463 and 465 passed first reading to align local laws with state codes, including school speed limits and fines up to 50 dollars. Building permits were also issued for five local projects.

Carey boys injured in one car crash near Tiffin

Edmund A Weaver Jr 17 and Robert White 467 Frederick Street are in Mercy Hospital Tiffin after a one car crash at 9 50 pm Sunday seven miles south of Tiffin on Route 53. Hal Turnbell 17 was treated for a facial cut and released. White, the most seriously hurt, showed slight improvement Monday and then remained semi conscious.

Wyandot County Narcotics Hoax Denied by Officials

Carey Police Chief Henry Piera County Sheriff V Dean McAllister and Upper Sandusky Chief Kirchner issued a joint statement Tuesday branding narcotics distribution stories in Wyandot County schools as a hoax. They said a thorough investigation found the reports pure fabrication by a few juveniles to hide other troubles.

Carey Teen Drivers to Compete in Sunday Road-e-o

Teen-agers with licenses or permits and no recent moving violations may enter the Carey Road-e-o. Straight line driving between rows of balls is a featured safe driving exercise. The event is a Junior Chamber of Commerce sponsored prelim to state eliminations and nationals, with 66 judges named by Jaycee sub-committee chair Carl Cupp to oversee the skill test and written quiz.

Carey Teen-age Road-eo slated at Vanlue High School

Two Carey Jaycees monitor a written quiz starting at 1 pm Sunday at Vanlue High School with a skill test at Carey Memorial Park to follow. About 20 teenagers already signed up, with prizes donated by Zahn Insurance Agency and George Remlinger. The local winner advances to the state contest and then the national contest for up to 3000 dollars in scholarships.

Charles W Laudenslager was elected commander of Earl Green Post No 344 American Legion at the monthly meeting, succeeding C M Courtad. Thome to Build Six Room Split Level Home in Lakeland Addition

Construction starts this week on a six room split level house for Mrs C C Thome on one of two Lakeland lots bought from Mr and Mrs John Hendricks of Vanlue. She and her uncle George Ash expect to occupy by August first. Mrs Thome sold 12 W Findlay Street to the Hendricks and bought a St Marys Avenue house from Mr and Mrs Eugene Redden. Her son and daughter-in-law Calvin and Mrs Thome will move to the new St Marys Avenue home around June.
