Baccalaureate Sermon for Carey High Class of 1940

Reverend Paul R. Clouser will preach the baccalaureate at Christ Lutheran Church on Sunday evening May 19 for the Carey high school class of 1940. The local scholarship team traveled to Bowling Green for district state tests and earned strong honors with 30 of 32 members cited for honorable mention and 10 receiving special notice.

May Census Plans And School Events In District

Mrs Ross Johnson and Forrest Dame were chosen to lead the 1940 school census for May as required by state law. Mothers enjoyed a tea hosted by the Girl Reserves with a program of songs readings and a luncheon carnations were given to attendees. Separate reports note Ohio Boys State history exam results delegates from American Legion and Kiwanis and a joint junior senior etiquette session for a banquet.

Baby Parade and Rhythm Revue at Local Talent Show

The program lists dozens of participants led by Shirley Keller and Phyllis Stombaugh with acts from Baby Parade through Rhythm Revue. A 60 pound daughter Mary Ann was born Wednesday to Mrs Lucille Hucke at her mother Mrs. Margaret Arend's home 40 miles west of Carey. Father Thomas Hucke died November 26. The baby has a 3 year old sister named Margaret Rose.

May 15 Marion field office official will hold hours 4 to 5 p m at Carey municipal building announced by Harold W. Kramer manager of the Marion office. Workers should keep social security cards for life and show them to new employers to verify names and numbers. Employers must report information to the collector of internal revenue when paying taxes under the act. If a card is lost, a duplicate should be issued, not a new number.

St Pauls Aid Society Meets at Mrs May Pratt Home

The St Pauls Ladies Aid met last Thursday afternoon at Mrs May Pratt’s home. Attendees included Mrs Morton Lee and daughter Marlene, Miss Martha Presler, Mrs O R Reiff, Mrs Thoburn Baker and sons Robert and Claren, Mrs Robert Kleish, Mrs Ray Cravens, Mrs Paul Walters and daughters Norma Jean and Vivian Ellen, Mrs Orville Wohlgamuth and Mrs Eldon Shaffer. After devotional and business, three recitations and contests followed, with prizes won by Mrs Walters and Mrs Wohlgamuth. Refreshments of jello and cake were served.

Mr and Mrs John Hendricks and Mrs Louisa Dietrick announce the birth of an 8-pound son to Mr and Mrs Paul Hanmley of Cleveland. Mr Hanley is the son of Mr and Mrs James Hanley of Galton, making Mrs Dietrick a great grandmother and Mrs Hendricks a great aunt.
