The W C T U invites all mothers to a Friday afternoon gathering at Mrs S R Bames home. Young mothers welcomed whether or not they are members. A telegram from Congressman R Clint Cole raises Mr Andersons pension to 72 dollars monthly.
The Carey Akivian luncheon featured Rev W F Martin in charge and Father A M Fish presenting a talk on law. He traced legal ideas from Roman times, noted divine and natural limits, and explained penalties and conscience binding. Johnson of Upper Sandusky spoke briefly. next Monday Hocking Valley officials visit. pianist Roger Lindsay to play. Johnson won the day’s prize.
Sunday morning services led by Mothers of the Church. a very important congregational meeting follows. All members should attend to consider and act on church future matters. Evangelical League monthly meeting set for Tuesday at Charles Thompson's home. Prayer Meeting Wednesday at 8 PM and choir rehearsal Thursday at the church. all members requested.
Gov Donahey urged Sunday May 11 as Mothers Day in a proclamation. He asked the people of the commonwealth to use the day to honor those who have passed and to let flowers symbolize reverence and devotion for both the living and the dead.
Luther League announces a candy sale on Saturday May 17 at the Rest Room location. Proceeds support league activities and community projects.
The C H 8 high school auditorium hosted a Kia Party by the girls on Wednesday evening April 30. The event featured the girls dressed as children with dolls and games simulating 10 year old kids. Refreshments were served and the attendees enjoyed themselves greatly.
Miss Bonnie Stroud of the Cleveland Colonial Art Co. presented reproductions of masterworks and modern paintings for students to purchase. Seniors bought Silver Moon by Alexandria, juniors chose The Avenue of Trees by Holhenns, sophomores selected Birch Bend by George Innes, and freshmen picked The Capitol at Washington. Students are congratulated for fulfilling this need.
The sophomore sewing class presents a style show Friday evening May 16 in the high school auditorium. Period costumes illustrate the link between past and present designs and reveal discarded styles. Classroom garments will be exhibited and the Girls Glee Club performs ensemble pieces, quartettes, and duets.
Carey led last year and appears favored to win again at the county meet. The winning school will claim the cup for a year, with Carey earning permanent possession if he retains the title. Support the track team and aim for victory.
Carey High seniors take first with 78 points in the inter class meet on Tuesday afternoon. Sophomores place second with 71, juniors 33, and freshmen 8. A Huston top scorer with 24 points and multiple event wins across standing high jump, mile run, relay, discus, and more among sophomores and seniors.
In a mixed college meet, Bradley dominates with Sen. Bradly winning baseball throw and javelin. Brashares and OgE place in multiple events while Wentling and Patterson claim top spots in girls events. Huston and Twining lead in running and vaults with strong showings from Wentling Wisner and Gardner. Distances include 319 feet in distance throw and 149 feet in javelin.
The spring Pilgrimage to Our Lady of Consolation runs May 17 to May 25 with peak crowds May 18 May 22 and May 25. Daily services include high Mass at 9 45 am prayers at 3 pm and benediction at 7 30 pm plus multiple processions and candle vigils. Local parishes including St Nicholas Wyandot Carey Upper Sandusky Kirby and Salem join the events led by Dean Francis L Hultgen.
Our Lady of Consolation Church plastering fund grows with contributions from distant places. A list in the Shrine Bulletin May issue shows donors including Mrs Allan McNichol of Hamilton Bermuda and Rt Rev Msgr Joseph Denning of Morocco Africa.
The Lutheran church schedules a 6:30 evening Vesper service with a Luther League discussion on “Being a Christian in the Home” followed by a brief sermon. Young ushers and a youth choir will participate. A congregational meeting with church council elections is planned a week later.
Vital statistics for April show births to the Becks Haymen Windau Bakies Brown Tong Smiley Krom Walters Derr Black Mangett and other couples with dates from April 7 to April 30. Deaths noted include Mrs Powell on April 22 and Samuel Ash on April 27.
Banns announced at Our Lady of Consolation for the marriage of Miss Leocadia Pahl and Jerome P Weinandy. The ceremony is set for Wednesday May 21.
