Ohio State Glee Club Shines in National Contest

The Ohio State University Men’s Glee Club under Professor Herbert Wall placed third in the national intercollegiate glee club contest at Carnegie Hall New York, after winning first in Ohio and earning a downtown concert debut. Basil Gauntlett, English pianist, solos as the club shifts toward classical choral works. Members Richard King and Donald Kurtz, both linked to the club, contribute as singers and pianist at times.

Pilgrimage at Shrine Draws Faithful Processions

Shrine services opened last Saturday with benediction at 7 30 pm. Catholic Knights of Ohio received Holy Communion at the 7 30 Mass. St Nicholas Frenchtown led a 10 o clock procession with parishioners from New Riegel and Alorada. Solemn High Mass at 2 10 30 featured a sermon by Rev Leonard Wren. May 2 brings pilgrims from Sandusky and Tiffin led by Rev Francis L Huttgen and Rev James Higgenbotham. Special Big Four train from Sandusky reaches Carey at 8 40 am, return at 4 00 pm. Candle procession at 2 00 pm. Christian Mothers serve meals at the hall. Closing May 5 sees pilgrims from Upper Sandusky, Kirby, Salem township led by Rev Forrer, Rev Keller, Rev Fr Lawrence.

Auto Crash Near Columbus Leaves Five Bruised

A car skidded on wet pavement at a tarred stretch on North High Street Columbus. Mrs Lee Doppler and two other women suffered severe bruises and sprains while the other occupants, including Mr and Mrs William Faber and Mr and Mrs Harry Faber and children, escaped with minor injuries. They were taken to Mrs Mary Landon’s home before returning Monday evening.

Kiwanians Hear Doctor Mundy on Preventive Medicine

Dr. W. N Mundy of Forest spoke at the Kiwanis Club lunch at the Galt House presenting The Value of Preventive Medicine in Modern Life. He contrasted prevention with surgery and highlighted the immense benefits of prevention. Next week National Music Week will be observed.

Rod and Gun Club to Meet at American Legion Rooms

The Carey Rod and Gun Club will meet Thursday evening at the American Legion rooms. Members are urged to attend as interest in the organization grows. A state fish truck visit led to a distribution of 800 perch catfish and pickerel in Tymochtee creek and the old Whaley stone quarry. Fishing will close in the quarry until July 1.

Granted Divorce for Mrs Etta Kitzler in Common Pleas

Mrs Etta Kitzler was granted a divorce from John Kitzler by Judge A W Overmyer in common pleas court on Saturday April 27. Charges included gross neglect of duty and extreme cruelty. Custody of minor children and household goods awarded to the wife. Kitzler ordered to pay $5 weekly for child support. The suit was not contested. Robert J. Gabel represented the plaintiff.

Tree Falls Across Road Blocks Crawford Driver

Sunday afternoon during a severe storm a tree fell six feet in front of a Ford roadster driven by Ralph Bingle of Crawford. His brother Clarence and George Savidge were with him. The tree crushed the wheel and caused serious damage but the occupants escaped unharmed.

Mrs Yohe and daughter visit Toledo after illness

Mrs J L Yohe spent Monday in Toledo with her daughter Miss Ger who is a patient at Robinwood. Miss Gertrude remains fairly well though recovering from a recent operation. Following an attack of the mumps a neck abscess formed and one ear is seriously affected.
