Carey Penal Is Injured in U S Route 25 Crash
English teacher Esther Leathers of Carey High School was injured when a northbound car hauler struck her car on an icy curve south of Cygnet Road at 515 PM last Tuesday. Leathers suffered a cracked vertebra and will wear a cast for a month and likely remain hospitalized. Willis Spencer and Woodrow Barker, both 34, Michigan truck drivers, skidded on the same ice and rear ended Leathers travel. Two trucks jackknifed into an east ditch causing extensive damage. minor damage to Leathers car reported.

Travelers Stranded During Storm Hits Route 23
The storm last week left many stranded in Carey as a windstorm Tuesday and a blizzard Saturday sparked drifts. Route 23 remained the only passable road with motorists taken to Ben Brayton Virgil Dieter and Clyde Rader homes early Sunday after stalling cars. It was Sunday afternoon before they could proceed.

A taxidermist returned a mounted woodcock for Charles Gibbins, drawing chatter among patrons of Gibbins' Restaurant. The 2 inch billed bird was found in front of the restaurant when it fell after contacting utility wires. the bird is a migratory game species with a dark breast and white legs, lacking crop or gizzard.
