Taft Wins Columbus Memorial Fountain Sculptor Honor
Lorado Taft of Chicago, a president’s cousin, won the competition to sculpt the Columbus statue and design the Columbus Memorial Fountain for the Union Station plaza. Congress authorized $100,000. the semicircular fountain by D. H. Burnham includes a 40 foot shaft and a ship prow with Columbus at the bow facing the capitol. The commission also chose site details and decorative walls. On Their Wedding Trip Visit to Local Home

New Kiln at the Brickyard
Men at Stief Bros brickyard tear down the old kiln to install a new Stewart Patent kiln. The round kiln will have a 24 foot diameter and 12 arches. Coal will fuel the operation, and it is the largest kiln ever used at the yard.
