School announces inter class basketball draw after school. Eleven teams compete including Senior Junior High and house teams. Juniors beat Sophomores in the first round. Seniors beat Juniors. Sophomores beat Freshmen. Girls finals expected next week with a small fee.
Carey leads the senior scholarship test with 1st place by Carey student Glenn Smiley in Upper Sandusky on Saturday. Hoff 5th and Allen 8th follow as 11 seniors from Carey, 26 from Upper Sandusky, 35 from other county schools participated. total 72.
Mrs H L Wenner and a list of community members attended the cantata Lafner s The Crucifixion at First Lutheran Church in Tiffin Sunday evening. H L Wenner and daughter Dorothy Jean Elmer Wonder and Irene Gillett joined others who accompanied the choir to Tiffin.
Kennie Mullins Jr died Tuesday at 9 00 am at his parents K N Mullins and Eda Wireman Mullins home in Biglick township Hancock county after a 12 day illness from pneumonia The infant born Sept 10 1931 is survived by his parents seven sisters Stella William Katie Susie Polly Evalle Maree and Reva and one brother Burial was in Galatia Kentucky Wednesday
Mr and Mrs Fred Ewing and Lucy L Laughlin thank the Carey and New Riegel fire departments along with Adrian friends who helped fight a severe Monday night fire that threatened their home.
Patricia Jane Myers, daughter born Wednesday evening to Mr and Mrs Donald Myers east of town, was christened Sunday afternoon at Our Lady of Consolation church by Fr Edwin Borntraeger. Theodore Myers and Miss Frances Myers served as sponsors.
Funeral services for Mrs Bitzas Krupp were held Friday at Our Lady of Consolation Church. Rev. Vollrath led the solemn high mass with two other priests assisting. Burial followed at St. Marys Cemetery. Numerous nephews served as pallbearers and many relatives and friends attended from across Ohio including Krupp families from Lorain Sandusky Toledo Akron and Columbus. Floral tributes featured lilies carnations and snapdragons.
The Krupp family expresses sincere thanks to neighbors and friends for their help during bereavement. gratitude to Fr. Paul Fr. Ee win and Fr. Othmar for comforting words, to donors of spiritual bouquets and flowers, to the choir and to the Christian Mothers and the Third Order.
A morning service at Christ Lutheran church confirmed a two year instruction class. The group included Gertrude Allen Mabel Altwater Margaret DeWitt Marjorie Donelson Fordyce Gottfried Clair McKee Stanley Montague Mary Ellen Montague Robert Wenner and Gordon Wyatt. Rev. Paul R. Clouser led the sermon Walking with the King. Mrs. George Denman of Upper Sandusky sang The Palms with Elsie Howard at the organ. A full congregation attended.
The Carey Community Club holds a regular meeting at the Moose hall on Monday evening March 28 with W. E. Beane of Arcadia as speaker. Beane is principal of Arcadia High School and agriculture teacher. A ladies banquet is planned at the K of P hall on Thursday evening March 31 with secretary notice for attendance.
A regular American Legion Auxiliary meeting will be held Monday evening. After the session a penny beano will be played with Legion men invited to join the social hour. Social committee members are Mrs. Joe Schira, Mrs. Porter Hendricks, Mrs. D. P. Wisler and Mrs. L. G. Altwater.
The angel reassures the women not to fear and confirms Jesus has risen. They are invited to look at the place where the Lord lay. The passage emphasizes the fulfillment of Jesus final promise and the emptiness of the tomb.
Russell Stout, son of Lawrence Stout, returns home on furlough from the navy where he serves as a second class radio man after a four year enlistment. He will remain a few weeks in the locality before heading to San Diego to await orders.
Marion Kiwanis welcomed guests from Carey on Tuesday at Hotel Marion. Vernon M. Riegel of Columbus, former state and county school superintendent, spoke on taxation as the program centerpiece. G M Kurtz and Donald Kurtz performed on piano while an orchestra including Millicent Warren, Helen Beebe, Jack Heck, and La Moin Fagan supplied selections.
A union Good Friday service will be held at Christ Lutheran church Friday from 1 30 to 3 00 p m Meditations on the Seven Words from the Cross will be given by Rev F B Esterley Van Lue Rev C W Sultzbach Rev E D Paulin and Rev Paul R Clouser Carey Rev J J McCabe will read the scripture and offer the prayer One special musical number will be provided by each church The gathering aims at meditation and prayer on a day meaningful to the Christian faith.
Holy Thursday schedule includes High Mass and 7 30 p m devotions with an 8 00 p m procession. Good Friday features 8 00 p m service with cross veneration and 12 noon to 3 pm devotions. Holy Saturday bless Font and Mass at 8 00 a m Easter Sunday Mass and Resurrection at 7 30 a m with 10 am Benediction and choir plus orchestra.
Milton Trubey son of Mr and Mrs L D Trubey of Dow street was elected class president of the Carey senior class at Tiffin Business University. Other officers are Vice President Nelson McGinnis Ottawa secretary Cleons Farthing McComb and Treasurer Howard Snyder Melmore.
The revival service at St. Paul Evangelical church south of Vanlue has drawn large crowds. Pastor Rev. H. M. Maurer has delivered fine discourses that attendees have sincerely appreciated.
Mrs Claude Johnson was brought home by Goffs ambulance from Findlay Home and Hospital after an operation two weeks ago. She is reported to be recovering nicely.
On Saturday afternoon the house and lot on Brown avenue once owned by Mr and Mrs Ross Johnson were sold at public auction to E F Labb for 1130. The property was appraised at 1533. The sale satisfied the suit by Alva H Cole administrator of the estate of Wm Greek against Wm Mohn et al.
Alice Ogg Evelyn Hosafros Zel len Audrush and Louis Alien attended a county committee meeting in Upper Sandusky Tuesday evening. They arranged a Young People's Conference to be held Saturday April 9 at Sycamore.
The Senior class at Salem Central School presents a three act comedy drama Cabbags or Dollars on March 31 and April 1 at 8:00 p.m. in the school auditorium. The cast includes Granddad Parker inventor Paul Veith Arda Martin Mary Jen Miller Ainnyyi the polaréd cob Bertha Moser Lady Jones etc. Public invited.
Thieves on S Muncie Street raided several autos Friday night, draining gas from Matt Fox and Earl Williams cars, stealing the Ford coupe headlight lenses and bulbs and two surgery kits from Dr. A. W. Balsley, plus a 4 wheel trailer from William Theis on Lake street. A Model T roadster or small delivery truck was sighted. Marshal Robert OConnor was not notified.
The marriage of Miss LaVerge Galbroner to Mr. Glenn Black of Milford Center is announced. They wed September 18 1931 in Walton Kentucky. Mrs Black is daughter of F A Galbroner and Mrs Galbroner of E Findlay Street. She is a Carey High School graduate 1926 and Grant Hospital nurses training graduate. They will reside at Crawford where Mr Black partners with Harry Nye in a store.
Preparatory and Holy Communion services at 7:30 this evening. Holy Communion also on Easter. Easter Day starts with a sunrise service at 6:30. Sunday school at 9:15 and morning service at 10:30 with baptism and the Lord's Supper. The Luther League will be the only evening service.
Co. Pahl of Toledo and his brother Paul Pahl from this place will run the New Idea Mfg Co rubber specialties plant to be opened in Chelsea Michigan. They spent a few days with relatives in Carey last week and had considered Carey as a site.
Banns for the approaching marriage of Eugene Smith of Tiffin and Miss Helen Boes of north of Carey were published at Our Lady of Consolation church Sunday morning.
The Laughing Cure a two act comedy by Carey features Dr George Carey and Laura Hanson as the central characters. Local cast includes Eugene Weaver Jimmie Mason Virgil Best Miss Catherine Arnold Miss Anita Weaver Rose Bradman Miss Virginia Snyder Miss Inez Fisher and others. The Catholic hall in Salem township hosts performances Sunday and Tuesday evenings with a program of dialogues and musical selections by Fidelis Weaver Justine Orians LeRoy Miller Junior Weaver Virginia Snyder Orians Arlis Orians and Richard Weaver.
Margaret Howard former home economics teacher at Carey High School and Konarock Training School Konnarock Va asks for release April 1 to travel with friends in rubber plantations East Africa The group sails April 22 with a London area stop then travels Gibraltar Tangier Marseilles Genoa Port Said Suez Aden Indian Ocean to Mombasa Nairobi and Satik.
Rev C W Sultzbach preached a fine sermon as revival services continued. Many from nearby towns attended and 20 from Carey accompanied him. Mrs Wesley Wonder and Mrs Bolyard contributed vocal solos.
The Christian Mothers will serve a roasted Swiss steak supper Tuesday evening March 29 at the Catholic hall. Dressing potatoes tomatoes fruit and cake are on the menu. Supper cards and dancing all for 25 cents. Everybody invited.
