Fine school program and scholarship tests noted

A high school orchestra gave a morning program under Miss Millicent Warren as she was recalled after her aunt’s death. The eighth grade science class took a five six weeks test and students planned model gardens. The state scholarship contest for seniors will be held March 19 at Upper Sandusky High School with about 3000 seniors statewide. Carey Welfare Committee Thanks Helpers for Sonny Jane Play

The Carey Welfare Committee expresses gratitude for the public response to the Sonny Jane play at the high school on Tuesday. It expects to raise over 80 from ticket sales and donations to fund clothing and shoes for the current school term, with special thanks to Rev. Paul Vollrath and the students, orchestra, and volunteer women who canvassed the community.

Evangelical Woman's Missionary Society Meets at Church

Mrs Henry Daymon presided over a brief church session of the Evangelical Woman's Missionary Society on Tuesday evening. The early adjournment let members attend the charity play at the high school auditorium. Mrs Gertrude Tate led devotionals and Daymon directed the Africa lesson study. Mrs Ed Paulin spoke on stewardship and Mrs L Peters read a leaflet. The meeting closed with a John 3 16 dismissal.

Death of John Hickle Gossips in Hibbing Minn

Relatives report the death of John Hickle a former resident east of town at his Hibbing Minnesota home. He died last Thursday morning from heart trouble aged 58 years. He moved to Minnesota about 30 years ago and was born December 29.

Burial followed in Spring Grove cemetery. Out of town mourners included Hagenmaier and Searfoss families from Upper Sandusky and Findlay, plus Rose Carlin and Cornine Chance of Fostoria.

Kathleen Ann McNutt to Undergo Palate Operation at Grant Hospital

Mr and Mrs Paul McNutt of Upper Sandusky take their 20 month old daughter Kathleen Ann to Grant hospital Columbus for a palate operation to enable speech. Kathleen will be a patient for two months. Kathleen's grandparents are Mr and Mrs Frank McDonald of S High Street.

Hard Surface Plan Set for Wonder Road Meeting

Harvey Wonder, John S Fox, Guy Greer and Ervin Wentling as Crawford township trustees met county commissioners Monday to discuss the Wonder road formerly Lime Kiln road. The commission approved hard surfacing from the Stief road to the county line.

Supper Announced by Christian Mothers for March 29

The Christian Mothers will host a roasted Swiss steak supper on Tuesday evening March 29 at the Catholic hall. Menu includes dressing potatoes tomatoes fruit and cake. Supper cards and dancing offered for 25 cents. Everyone invited.

Mrs Clarissa Putnam Dies After Brief Illness at 81

Mrs. Clarissa Putnam aged 81 years 7 months 2 days died last Thursday at 5 30 in the home of her daughter Mrs W R Graves on West Street. She was born July 28 1850 in Fairfield county daughter of Cornelius and Elizabeth Clark. Surviving are five children Mrs Graves Mrs Perry Presler Dallas Putnam Allen Putnam and Shannon Putnam plus 21 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren. Funeral Sunday at Memorial Evangelical Church conducted by Rev E D Paulin and Rev C W Sultzbach with burial at St Paul cemetery near Vanlue.

Automobile Burned Near County Line Road Crash

Miss Marjorie C. Craig of Detroit drove a Hudson Bight which burned after a curve mishap two miles north of town on the county line road. She escaped, but clothing worth about $800 burned. The purse with cash fell as smoke filled the car. A passerby took her to Carey for treatment after the crash.

Death of Mrs Elizabeth Krupp at Carey Ohio

Mrs Elizabeth Krupp died at 9 30 PM at 245 Clay street after years of declining health she had been bedfast since Sunday Funeral services are set for Friday at 9 30 AM at Our Lady of Consolation Church Fr Paul Vollrath to officiate Burial will be in St Marys Cemetery She was born August 9 18 and aged 76 years 6 months 6 days Survivor list includes 10 children 26 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren with siblings and in laws Also noted her long service to Our Lady of Consolation Church and the Christian Mothers group

Nachbar Couple Celebrates Sixty Years of Marriage

Mr and Mrs Fred Nachbar marked their sixtieth wedding anniversary at their E South street home with a thr een dinner for family including Charles Lawrence Opal Harold Ray Clifford and Mary Moser. Married March 11 1872 at Bucyrus they lived near Bucyrus 19 years before moving to a Carey area farm and then to Carey 30 years ago. He is 82 and she two years younger both active and rejoicing in decades of happiness with many Carey friends offering congratulations.

Catholic Knights of Ohio Hold Convention at Carey

State officers of the Catholic Knights of Ohio accept an invitation to hold the 1932 state council session September 11 12 and 13 at Our Lady of Consolation Shrine in Carey. The Shrine pastor and local branch invite the event and members will bring families on a pilgrimage to the shrine.

Death of S B Gillett in Carey Ohio

Illness of pneumonia and influenza led to the death of Sylvester Byrd Gillett at his Carey home on Thursday afternoon. Funeral services were held at the residence with Rev Paul R Clouser of Christ Lutheran Church officiating. He was born November 21 1846 in Norton Ohio and died aged 85 years 3 months 19 days. He married Ella Ann Webb in 1887. three children were born to them with Irene surviving. He was a long time Mason and Eastern Star member and served as a surveyor and farmer in Carey Ohio.

The local Parent-Teacher Association held a large meeting in the high school auditorium with A G McQuate addressing The Problems of Parenthood. He urged parent study groups and child psychology discussion. Sixty Kiwanis guests from Fostoria attended Garey Kiwanis dinner. Vocal music by an ocette and Rev Wood spoke on Worms, stressing singleness of purpose. The Carey club will carry the program to Marion next week.

Sixty Crawford Ridge Farm Bureau members met at Moose hall to hear A T Moser of Upper Sandusky discuss livestock marketing and trucking versus rail shipments. Funeral services were conducted Friday at 10:30 a.m. in Wharton Methodist church for Chas C Vogel with burial in Wharton cemetery.
