Public School News Qualifying Test For Army Training

Superintendent announced a nationwide qualifying test to secure students for the Army Specialized Training Reserve program. The test will be held Thursday April 12 at Carey High School. Eligibility covers 17 year olds born between October 1 1963 and August 31 1945, with graduation date soon after. Passing the test grants eligibility for a free scholarship of 2 to 4 terms of college training. ASTRP offers training at universities, with STRP members in the enlisted reserve corps. Students from Carey are often assigned to a college in the Sth service command.

School Notes Reflect Absences and Activities Including Farewell

Mrs Harper returned to duties after several days absence. Mr Mulcholand missed classes due to his father's illness and death. Chapel and devotions were held Monday. Richard Bland, set to leave for the armed services, was honored at a senior party Tuesday. A daily junior class dance ran during lunch at the high school auditorium. The school radio program aired Wednesday with Owen Cour tad as master of ceremonies.

Lt Jack Tracy Undergoes Second Operation in England

Lt Jack Tracy, hospitalized in England on March 5 after wounds in Belgium on January 15, underwent a second operation on his wounded right arm. He reports improvement but limited use of the arm. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Ray Tracy of Carey.

SGT Richardson Awarded Bronze Star Medal

Staff Sergeant Solomon L Richardson of Carey received the Bronze Star Medal on January 29 from Brigadier General Nugent. He served as crew chief for nine P 47 aircraft and completed 100 consecutive missions, earning credit for his squadron and the United States Armed Forces.

Pvt Clarence Eugene Tutte Tong killed in action in Germany is honored with a memorial service at Carey Methodist Church at 2 PM. Arrangements are by Goff Funeral Home.
