Carey Schools Plan Program Honoring Germany Capitulation

Public School News reports a Carey school program with songs prayers and readings to mark Germany's surrender. Participants include Mr Sutphen directing and Dr Ford giving invocations, with honors listed by Mervin Shafer and Rev Kee delivering benediction. If surrender news arrives after 9 am or before 2:30 pm, timing shifts to 3:15 pm. public invited, especially American Legion members on leave, to attend.

Salvage Tug Clamp Aided Marines At Iwo Jima

Chief radioman Charles Ritter of Carew Ohio describes life aboard the Clamp a sea going salvage tug in the Pacific. The ship's captain Lebbens H Curtis Sr. and his son Lebbens H Curtis Jr. serve a rare father son pair while the crew toils up to 48 hours without rest to aid the Marines at Iwo Jima. Capt Curtis says the ship has salvaged ships worth about 3.5 billion dollars since the war began.

Father and Son Banquet at Christ Lutheran Next Thursday

Holy Week Services at Shrine Church Open with Palm Blessing

The Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation marks Holy Week with Latin and English Masses. Holy Thursday recalls the crucifixion with a high Mass and Eucharist processions. Good Friday features the Mass of the Presanctified and Passion readings, followed by a sermon by Rev. Tamien Zimmerman. Holy Saturday includes Blessing of the Easter candle and baptismal water ahead of the Paschal Masses. Tenebrae services Wednesday to Friday feature a seminary choir. Children from the Our Lady of Consolation school performed the Mass and will again today. All are invited to attend these Holy Week observances.

Real Estate Changes Near Carey

Mr and Mrs Sherman Conley bought the house and eight acres three miles west of Carey from Mr and Mrs John Boyce who purchased the Kimmel property at the corner of New and Ash streets The Boyce property sale was handled by John Risner real estate broker Mr and Mrs Boyce moved to the Kimmel property and the Conleys plan to occupy the former Boyce property soon.

Red Cross Drive Nears Quota With 838588.31 Collected

Mrs Ross Johnson, chairman of the Carey Red Cross, reports a drive total of 838588.31 toward a 4400 quota. Several industries, two precincts and additional individuals have yet to contribute, with donations accepted at Peoples Bank or Mrs Johnsons home on W Findlay Street.

Toledo airmen help drop on Corregidor Island

Two Toledo area airmen took part in a successful drop of paratroopers ammunition and supplies on Corregidor Island. TDnent Donald J. Stickney, pilot, Waterville, and Staff Sergeant Richard P. Brown, engineer, Carey, were part of 47 transport crews delivering cargo through hostile fire to the target.

Miss Brooks Appointed Army Nurse Corps Second Lieutenant

Helen I. Brooks of Detroit assigned to Camp McCoy Wisconsin after being named to the Army Nurse Corps with the rank of second lieutenant at the 6th Service Command in Chicago. A Mt Carmel Hospital School of Nursing graduate, she previously worked with the Detroit Visiting Nurse Association. Her parents reside in Fairfield Ohio.

Methodist Revival Closes With Large Attendance and Tithing Covenant

The revival services at the Methodist church directed by John W. Troy ended successfully last week with widespread patronage. Nearly 200 men sang The Ninety and Nine on the final Sunday night. Many attendees signed the tithing covenant and a large class will join the church. A candlelight communion and adult baptism are planned for Thursday at 7 30 p m. Pastor QO. E. Ford notes the church’s renewed Christian purpose.

Navy recruit Jacoby completes training at Sampson Center

S 2c, son of Mr and Mrs John Jacoby of Lake Street Carey Ohio, completed recruit training at Naval Training Center Sampson N Y on Seneca Lake and has been granted leave. S 2]c Jacoby left Carey Wednesday for Sampson after a 7 day leave with his parents. He will be eligible for further assignment which may qualify him for a petty officer rating.

Summerell, from Roanoke Rapids NC, served since 1943 with the 314th Infantry Gen Patch, first army, and died while moving wounded. He leaves a wife Frances Morgan and children Bonnie Louis and Billie Ward, with brothers James and John and sister Mrs Eddie Hubbard. The family has lived in Carey 40 years.

Kenneth Richards Named Second Lieutenant in Rainbow Division

Mrs. Kenneth Richards reports her husband has received a battlefield appointment as second lieutenant in the 42nd Rainbow Division of the Army in France. Lt Richards, son of Mr and Mrs John Richards of Findlay, enlisted May 28 1944 and went overseas November 1944. He earned an Infantryman's badge January 9 and a bronze service star February 5.

SiSgt Henry Fredritz son of Mr and Mrs John Fredritz north of Carey was wounded March 16 while with the 1st Army in Germany. He will be transferred from a French hospital to one in England and reports a flesh wound in the right arm above the elbow. He has served 2 years and 4 months.

Ill Father Feasel Visited by Family Members

Mrs Reobert Phillips of Tiffin and Mr and Mrs Rosy Feasel and Mrs Charles Clark of Carey were summoned to the home of Mr and Mrs Edward Schimpf in Lykens due to the serious illness of Jefferson Feasel formerly of Carey. He has been staying with Mrs Schimpf, his daughter.
