The ship's captain Lebbens H Curtis Sr. and his son Lebbens H Curtis Jr. serve a rare father son pair while the crew toils up to 48 hours without rest to aid the Marines at Iwo Jima. Capt Curtis says the ship has salvaged ships worth about 3.5 billion dollars since the war began.

Methodist Revival Closes With Large Attendance and Tithing Covenant
The revival services at the Methodist church directed by John W. Troy ended successfully last week with widespread patronage. Nearly 200 men sang The Ninety and Nine on the final Sunday night. Many attendees signed the tithing covenant and a large class will join the church. A candlelight communion and adult baptism are planned for Thursday at 7 30 p m. Pastor QO. E. Memorial services for Pvt Bonnie A Summerell 38 killed Jan 5 in southern France will be Sunday at 2 PM at Carey Methodist Church. Earl Green Post 344 American Legion to lead. burial arrangements by Golf Funeral Home. Summerell, from Roanoke Rapids NC, served since 1943 with the 314th Infantry Gen Patch, first army, and died while moving wounded. He leaves a wife Frances Morgan and children Bonnie Louis and Billie Ward, with brothers James and John and sister Mrs Eddie Hubbard. The family has lived in Carey 40 years.
