Carey Moose Lodge will sponsor an annual dance to aid the American Red Cross War Fund. The event is set for a Wednesday evening in March at Buckeye, with entertainers promised and admission at 25 cents. All proceeds go to the Red Cross drive.
Local basketball saw Tiffin Calvert defeat the team 27 to 18 last Thursday. Marseilles won the sectional tournament on Saturday, Bettsville taking the consolation game from Cal. Hi Y activities sponsored by Mr. Mulholland held gatherings Thursday and Monday evenings. Miss Helen Smith remains ill. Mrs Wade H. Koon is substituting. Navy V-12 tests occurred Wednesday. Grade seven and eight music classes provided chapel music on Monday. Latin week featured a song performed by Donna Wonder and Nancy Mortague. A sophomores chapel Friday featured Miss Claflin’s home room with a Star Dust Club theme. Master of ceremonies Stanley Pieranunzio. pianist Donna Wonder. The program opened with a large paper sack bang by Ralph Pratt. A vocal duet by Eloise Windau and another performer followed.
An retiring Carey Kroger store manager thanks the community for patronage and favors during residence. He departs next week to join the U S Navy and urges continued support for his successor until his return.
The January 31 daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gaylord Patterson of Medina was baptized Sunday afternoon at Our Lady of Consolation Church. Rev. Joseph Herp officiated with sponsors Mies Virginia Kurtz of Columbus and Linus Myers of Carey. Mother Glenna Kurtz is daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Kurtz of Carey.
The Third Quarterly Communion of the conference year will be held at Memorial Evangelical Church Sunday morning at 10 30. The pastor will be in charge. The sermon subject will be Glorying in the Cross. All members and friends are urged to attend.
The Past Matrons of Cramford Chapter No 168 D B S will hold a regular monthly meeting at the Masonic hall Friday afternoon. A tureen dinner will be served at 6 o'clock by Mrs F L Moyer Mrs F A Galbroner Mrs Mimer Wonders and Miss Elsie Howard.

Calvin Edward Norris 18 seaman first class United States Navy Reserve was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps medal by the President. He saved his commanding officer after abandoning ship following a collision near Jupiter Light Florida on October 20 1943 by swimming through smoke to a lifeboat and returning to aid the officer as they were rescued. Norris is the son of Mrs Naomi Norris of Carey formerly Sycamore and enlisted February 2 1943.
On Monday Mrs Margaret Southward and daughter Mise Nellie received fragrant waxed grapefruit blossoms from Mrs Gem Godfrey and daughter Marjorie of Clearwater Florida. Mrs Godfrey, former Gem Martir, grew up in Carey. Mrs Southward, known for her flower garden, gathered the first snowdrop blossom March 11 and the first scilla March 13.
Lt Harold Exy Krout flew from Monroe Louisiana to Dayton in an AT-7 trainer with five crew. He spent the weekend with his parents Carl and Mrs Krout and brought a group of student navigators. The 650 mile trip took 3 1/2 hours by air. he later traveled 100 miles by bus from Dayton to Findlay.
John Del Guzzio of Pleasantville New York visited Carey from Monday to Saturday to see his brother in law and sister Mr and Mrs Angelo Trojan. Mrs Trojan underwent a major operation Thursday at Mercy Hospital Tiffin. Del Guzzio is a farmer and service man who received an ionophile discharge from the U.S. Army at age 38 and now works at Eastern Aircraft Corp.
Carey Ohio will switch clocks from Central War Time to Eastern War Time at midnight April 1 by unanimous village council vote. Mayor A E Constien and Clerk Jacob Nitrauer announce the change effective in Carey.
Mr and Mrs Linus Reinhart of south of Carey announce their son Harold has been advanced in rank to Lieutenant jg in the United States Navy.
The Carey W C T U will hold a regular meeting Friday at 2 o clock with Miss Marie Myers on East Findlay Street.
Carey will receive a modern theatre after war production board permission to Edward T. Gibbons of Canton and Leg T. Jones of Upper Sandusky to build. Construction starts once the Lemony property is cleared west of the post office. Mr. Gibbons and Mr. Jones thank all who wrote letters requesting approval. Mr. Jones will speak to the Carey Kiwanis Monday night.
Interdenominational county conference on World Government planned for Friday March 17 at Trinity Evangelical Church Upper Sandusky. Ohio Council of Churches sponsors the event as part of 79 sessions mid March. Discussions cover maintaining peace with a world government, sharing with other nations, world armed forces, tariffs, lend lease, freedom of the air, and aid to have not nations. Visiting Ohio ministers will discuss church action to prevent a third world war.
The Carey Community Club marks its 20th anniversary with an 8 o'clock gathering at the Knights of Columbus hall. Club members and Kiwanis guests will attend and former members are urged to join. J B Blackford of the Upper Sandusky schools will speak followed by refreshments.
Carey Chapter No 159 R A M will hold its annual inspection Thursday at 730 PM with J F Herman of Findlay as inspecting officer. Work in the PM degree follows a 630 PM dinner. A special convocation is planned Thursday evening March 23 at 730 with the M E Master degree conferred. Ralph Shontz HP, WM Zahn, Secry listed.
Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Hagerman thank friends and relatives for cards gifts and flowers sent while they were ill at the home of their son in law and daughter Mr. and Mrs J W Wisner in Carey.
A weekly Saturday dance will be held at the Eagles hall with music by the Victory Boosters. Door prizes offer $8.00 in war stamps and admission details are listed for attendees.
Published at the Carey Committee request the American Red Cross War Fund campaign lists donors from Arthur Stevens to Kroger Grove with totals and notes large and small gifts. The notice urges all contributors to post Red Cross stickers by March 20 and thanks supporters for saving solicitor time.
The Forum class of the Methodist Sunday school will hold its second regular meeting in the church parlors on Friday evening, March 17, at 7:00. A tureen dinner will be served, followed by a social hour, business and devotional session. Attendees are asked to bring their own table service and a covered dish. hot sandwiches and coffee will be provided by the March committee.
Deputy Registrar George Ff. Shuman urges motorists to obtain 1944 license plates within the next ten days. Only a quarter of plates have been sold, with extended hours planned including all evenings next week except Monday and Friday and Thursday afternoons March 23 and 30.
Round and square dancing at the Moose fall Saturday evening with music by the Buckeye Entertainers. The event promises traditional square and round dancing for attendees and members.

Twenty four inductees left Upper Sandusky by the C and O railroad at 10 25 Saturday for Ft Thomas Ky for pre induction service. The list includes Wyandot county transfers and those moving to Columbus for examination with names from Upper Sandusky Sycamore Findlay and Wharton among others.
Dorothy L. Plott, daughter of Mr and Mrs Roy Plott of Carey Ohio, earning a Good Conduct medal for excellent character and efficiency. The award was announced by Col John T Rhett, post commander, while she serves as a member of the WAC detachment at Fort Sheridan Illinois.
