Carey High seniors named for state scholarship test
Reported by Reporter June Criger and Athletic Reporter Joe Newhard, Carey high school will send 14 seniors to represent the class of 1939 at the General Scholarship Test on April 1. The test is statewide, with seniors from county seats competing for ranks. Names include Mary Elizabeth Haford Harold Krout Mauvelyn Hendricks Henrietta Iden Irma Altwater June Iger George Corron Talmage Huston Robert Hayman Jack Tracy Madelon Ward Paul Burson Joé Newhard Kathryn Black and Robert Stombaugh. The season closed with the sectional tournament as 1938 39 basketball ends. Seniors honored for final Blue and White game are Jack Tracy Harold Krout Tom Krom Junior Corron and Harry Fabiani. Janitor Harry Stoody out sick with flu. The flu outbreak continues with two teachers and 67 pupils absent. Farmers and Sportsmen Club Seeks 200 Members in Carey
The Farmers and Sportsmen's Protective association of Carey met at the American Legion hall on Tuesday to discuss growth and outside member policies. They added 46 new members in two weeks, reaching 96 sportsmen and 14 farmers, with a goal of at least 200. The group formed a committee to address coverage area and outside members. National Wild Life Restoration Week runs March 12 to 18, supporting conservation through poster stamps sold nationwide. Seventy five percent of stamp proceeds go to the National Wildlife Federation. the rest funds local conservation work and a 1936 North America Wildlife Conference origin is noted.

Fatal Auto Crash Near Alvada Claims Two Women
An early Wednesday crash on U.S. Route 23 near Alvada killed Mrs. Jack Middleton, 28, of Detroit, and left Mrs. David Gordon, 28, also of Detroit, with a dislocated knee and probable internal injuries. both were hospitalized in Fostoria.

Car Crash Near Alvada Leaves Mrs Gordon In Critical Condition
Condition of Mrs Gordon reported critical after a wet pavement crash north of Alvada. The two women were returning to Detroit from Charleston W Va where they visited Mrs Gordon's mother. Mrs Gordon drove the car which skidded and crashed into a concrete culvert, nearly tearing the vehicle in two.

At 7 30 a m a car crash left Mrs Middleton dead and Mrs Gordon injured who was rushed to Fostoria hospital Robert Lawrence of Carey helped extract the women from the wrecked vehicle.

Dow and Riester Return From California Stay
Mrs A Dow and Miss Frances Riester returned Tuesday from a six week stay in Los Angeles as guests of Mrs Dow’s daughters Carolene Genevieve and Margaret Dow. They traveled by bus stopping in Toledo Friday to visit relatives and friends. They went to California with Ralph and Carl Karcher who continued on. The boys remained in California with Ralph at Anaheim and Carl in Los Angeles where each has positions.
