The W C T U met Friday afternoon with Mrs Elza Jacobs presiding. The group sang Some Glad Day and read the 105th Psalm then prayed. A Nevada Union invitation to Carey for a May institute was read. Miss Della Gilliland led a parliamentary quiz on amendments and Mrs W G Bradley read from James White and a poem Cheering ve Runner.
Alfred Ruffing purchased the 75 acre farm of A. G. Collet located a mile northeast of town paying 175 dollars per acre. Charles Collet will remain on the farm for another year.
Otis Shafer buys the Tot from C. X. Diller at East Findlay street and Wyandot avenue in Eastern Heights and plans to build a bungalow.
Choose the instrument that fits your talent and join bands. Schools churches and many institutions seek players for musical groups. John B Moore Carey Ohio offers C G Conn instruments with lessons on piano band and orchestra. The Conn instruments have won top honors at world expositions.
The Jennie Larmonth Young Women Missionary Society of the Lutheran church will hold a meeting next Monday at 7 30 p m at Mrs Alva’s home. Miss Elsie Garmon assists, with Mrs Ross Johnson and Miss Beulah Sopher leading the program. A short playlet is planned as a feature.
Many witnesses testified Monday forenoon about William Poutton from East Liverpool accused of drunkenness while working at Federal Porcelain. Poutton faced hearings with Prosecuting Attorney Earl B. Carter and Sheriff W. W. Scheidegger. he was fined 100 dollars with 20 dollars costs remitted for good behavior, costs payable after he earns funds.
Miss Sarah Thomas of Hancock county died Wednesday morning after a paralysis that began three weeks ago. Funeral services will be Friday at 10:00 a.m. from her home near Vanlue, with Rev. Yeager of Vanlue Methodist Church officiating. Burial is in Bigelow cemetery. Born April 15, 1876, she was the daughter of Henry and [Mrs.] Thomas and is survived by three brothers Clinton, Cranson, Wes ley and a sister Maud Hill. The family notes the mother is crippled and wheelchair-bound.
The Woman's Home and Foreign Missionary society of the Lutheran church held a regular meeting in the Sunday school room. Mrs. A. H. Kennerley led Bible reading and prayer, with Mrs. Carl Heck and helpers guiding the lesson on India, Our Achievement.
Notice announces an examination on Saturday April 7 to fill two clerk positions in the post office now held by Norman Zahn and Charles Calmes who have not taken the exam. Salary listed as 1400 per year and applicants directed to local secretary Sam Gunther.
Mr and Mrs S M Ranger and Mr and Mrs Howard Heck with Mrs Herman Gibbs attended the funeral of Adam Sprau at Mc Cutchenville. Sprau was the grandfather of Mrs Heck and Mrs Gibbs.
Arnold Hayman has purchased the Miss Ella Criger property on East Findlay street. The McLaughlins have rented the house on South Vance street which Hayman and family vacated.
The Men's Brotherhood of a Lutheran church meets tonight at the home of Howard E. Snyder. All men not affiliated with another church are invited to attend.

Carey High School debaters won 11 of 12 judges in four county debates earning the cup. Chapel included current events by Voyle Brashares. Mr. Hornby urged rule observance. A school song version was issued to students. Next Monday the agricultural and domestic science classes present the play Between Two Lives to raise funds for a moving picture machine.
Carey girls show strong improvement in a home game last Friday night holding Forest to 17 while blasting 138. Heck Patterson Gunther Teavae and captain Gunther lead a hard working effort with fierce guarding closing in on Forest’s attempts. Kenton Hi visits Carey next, a rematch after an 11 2 season start.
In a brisk start at Camp 33 the Carey and Forest teams traded possessions until Kear slipped free and scored the opening basket to put Carey on the board. The game followed a back and forth pattern as both sides fought for early momentum.
Carey High School players led by Kear with 16 points and a strong defensive effort from Tong paced a win over Green Springs athletes. Bradley and Tony contributed early, Don and Huston added guard depth, as two upcoming Carey games against Green Springs were announced with a 7:00 p.m. start and 35 cent admission.
Robert and Bernard Jacob plan a pool and lunch room after selling their grocery stock in their father P. W. Jacob’s building on East Findlay Street. The rear will be a pool room, the front for lunch, soft drinks and tobacco. P. W. Jacob and son Ferdinand will work on building a house on the Arcadia farm a mile west.
The Carey streets will host the Spring Pilgrimage starting April 29 with a week of prayer. The octave opens on Thursday May 3 and concludes with the closing on Sunday May 6 as announced in the Shrine Bulletin.

The American Legion post 344 invites all members to a mandatory meeting at the club rooms on Monday evening March 19 at 7 30 p m. Important business will be addressed.
A Kiwanis luncheon in Carey featured officials of the A C Y Railway who arrived by special car from Akron after a tree blocked the track. Speeches by J C Williams S J Witt and M J Hood praised railway service to the community and noted the line's three year progress under current ownership. A Logan Gas Co communication about a natural gas bill was read and referred to the executive committee.
The American Glee Club gave the final number of the high school lecture course last Thursday in the auditorium. Attendees praised the closing piece and also rated the third and fourth numbers highly. The four club members possessed fine voices and performed popular instrumental selections. lack of programs prevents naming them individually.
Evangelistic services led by Pastor Rev. W. F. Martin begin Sunday at the M. and church with Prof. J. B. Moore directing music. Attendance invited. services nightly except Saturday. Easter observance plans to be announced for all attendees.

An 8 pound son was born to Mr and Mrs A F Byers on Wednesday noon. Mr Byers foreman of the Carey Times office. Mrs I L Culler received notice of a daughter born March 8 to Mr and Mrs Homer Galbroner of Middleport named Clare Louise.
