Friday evening February 29 the Junior class held a Plaid Shirt Swing. Students enjoyed round and square dancing with games planned by the recreation committee. Refreshments followed. sponsors were Mrs East Miss Hack and Mr Wilson. Guest attendees included Mr Hartman and Mr Mrs Went Jing and Mrs Wilson.
William Whitenack of Carey high school achieved a perfect score in the 1962 General Scholarship Test for high school seniors in Ohio. The feat is rare for the statewide exam taken by top senior students.
A group of Carey teachers will attend the Heidelberg Educational Conference on Saturday March 16. The theme is Teaching International Understanding and the United Nations Organization and UNESCO will receive substantial attention at the event.
The March 3 meeting led by Barbara Elbert had no business. Reverend Whitenack spoke on Y Teens and Their Religion, delivering a thoughtful talk that ended with a friendship circle.
The Snapdragons topped all rivals led by captain Jennie Courtad with teammates Donna Nye Sybie Wedge Phyllis Vaughn Agnes Bakies Dorothy Cramer Mary Ellen Fox June Sizemore Louise Collet and Anita Gibson. Roses Sunflowers Poppies Daisies Lilies Pinks Petunias Marigolds Carnations placed 2nd through 8th respectively.
Raymon E. Noel of Wear-Ever Aluminum in Fostoria demonstrated waterless cooking to a Junior-Senior home economics class. He roasted meat and baked cakes on top of the stove, noting the method saves food value and keeps colors. The Wear-Ever kit is said to last longer and be more convenient.
On Thursday afternoon March 6 seventh graders from Sampson and Criger rooms visited the Carey Post Office to learn about postal services. Supervisor Earl Hetzel arranged transportation and Postmaster Joe Schira led demonstrations and answered pupil questions for a very educational experience.

Carey announces the annual Red Cross drive begins Monday March 7 with a goal of 1500 dollars. Precinct captains and solicitors will organize within two days. Burson notes a county rep suggests next year the drive may run with the Community Chest as in earlier years.

E. E. Rutledge, local New York Central agent, was told trains would run at night if crews could be found and normal schedules would resume today if possible. Northbound freights passed through Carey Wednesday, the first since the strike began, and the office was accepting freight again.
Wyandot county March of Dimes campaign ends Saturday March 15. Donations from individuals organizations are urged to be mailed to Leo Jones in Upper Sandusky Ohio. Co chairmen Charles Reed Jr and T Jones note many clubs and activities have yet to contribute and urge final totals next week.
Findlay sugar beet worker Epafanio Quiroga receives 3400 refund after OPS found he overpaid for a 1939 Lasalle sold by North Baltimore dealer William Ankney. Quiroga paid 520 cash and traded a 1940 Buick, with OPS stating overcharge of 400 and trade-in value of 200. Ankney must repay 400 and pay 200 to the U S government.
Great Lakes Illinois report notes James Robinson son of Homer K. and Mrs. Robinson Carey Ohio transferred to Naval Air Station Agana Guam Marianas after completing aviation electronics technician training at Memphis Tennessee Navy school. He joined the service April 24 1951 after recruit training at Great Lakes Illinois and Carey High School graduate.
Mrs. Arthur H. Byers traveling with daughter Mrs. John Gillespie and children Rebecca and Eric arrived in Carey from Monterey California after a 65 week visit. SFC Gillespie, son of Morris Gillespie Sr of Upper Sandusky, arrived later by plane. He will report to Camp Stoneman California March 26 for duty in Japan. wife and children will stay with the Byers.
Cpl. John Boyce son of Mr and Mrs John Boyce south of Ca tey arrived home Wednesday of last week on an 80 day furlough from Germany where he has been serving the past three years On May 28 he will report to Camp Kilmer NJ returning to Germany from there
Christ Lutheran Sunday school Mary-Martha class meets Monday evening after the Lenten service. Mrs Alden Smith reviews the book A Monk in Armor by Gladys Barr. Committee for the evening includes Mrs Melvin Risner chairwoman and others.
Mr and Mrs C A Schira traded their house and 13 acres of a 42 acre farm three miles northwest of Carey on Route 16 for a five room house at 152 Cleveland Avenue belonging to Mr and Mrs Cedric Beard. The two families expect to move about the middle of April.
A Sunday evening program at the Pilgrims’ House features piano pupils of Sister Mary Imelda. Two recitals present works by Thompson, Schaum, Strauss, Rimsky Korsakov, Mendelssohn, Behr and others, with solo and ensemble pieces performed by groups and individuals. The event runs from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. and includes multiple titled pieces and student performers.
The Past Chiefs' association of Carey temple No. 169 Pythian Sisters will gather at 3 30 this afternoon at the home of Mrs Roy Kirkwood. A potluck supper will be served and all Past Chiefs are invited.
A district Moose gathering will be held Sunday at Carey hall with lodges from Findlay Fostoria Tiffin and New Riegel represented. An evening supper and dance will follow with Decker's Red Shirts providing the music.
The Union Past Presidents' club of the Findlay and Carey reviews, Woman's Benefit association, will meet Monday evening March 17 at the home of Mrs Linus Myers.
Justus lodge No. 393 will meet Tuesday March 18 at 8 p.m. After the meeting refreshments will be served.
Women in Carey are urged to join the Ground Observer Corps Aircraft Warning Service to ensure observers for all exercises at Columbus filter center or Eastern Air Defense Force HQ at Stewart AFB. Last Friday Wyandot county drills trained posts. Joan Steen was Carey’s only female observer. Four planes were spotted, all in the second hour. Contact Mr. Shue or Mr. Keller to join.
Fire damaged an eight room frame house on the W. M. Walter farm four and a half miles southwest of Carey on Grace Chapel road. Flames from the roof caused about 4500 dollars in damage. the roof collapsed into the upper story. The Walter family remains with relatives nearby as investigators and local fire departments respond.
Four Carey youths Zellon Ritter Gene Feasel Charles M Ritter and Glenn Coldiron enlisted in the U S army and were sent to Fort George Meade Md after passing physicals in Toledo They expect a new base assignment soon Zellon Ritter has prior three year service in Japan and Pvt Feasel is married with a six month old son.
A Wyandot County Auxiliary Highway Patrol gathering was held Tuesday evening in Sycamore. Lawrence Bland of Carey was reelected captain, with 65 lieutenants named including Leslie Alden Calvin Frankenfield William Keller Ira Wenner and Kenneth Ankney from Sycamore. Plans were set for the auxiliary party in Columbus on March 29 and 30. Patrolman DeWalt of the Marion barracks provided general instructions.
A dated card from Mr and Mrs G C Wagner dated February 29 notes they are spending a birthday in Key West Florida. They report feeling fine and enjoying their time.
The Young Adult Lutherans will meet at 6 30 p.m. Sunday at Christ Lutheran Church for a pot luck supper. Hosts are Rev and Mrs John A Root and Mr and Mrs William Maregraf.
The Woman's Benefit Association No 27 will meet Friday evening at the Moose hall to review matters and conduct association business in a community event setting.
Catholic Ladies of Columbia hold a bake sale Saturday morning at the Ohio Fuel Gas office. Members should bring items by 9 a.m. to the location.
Acting Mayor Charles Gibbins reported two traffic calls on Saturday. Howard Stansbery of Upper Sandusky was fined 10 dollars and 8.60 dollars costs for driving without a license while Frank J. Johnson of Findlay paid 19 dollars and 8.60 dollars costs for reckless operation. Officer Vincent Jacob investigated and made fire arrests in each case. Robert Hendricks, head of the village electrical department, with Joe Jefferson, reported work under way at the Galt Hotel including rewiring a new electrical entrance and independently wired exit lights and fireproofing the furnace room. A progress report has been sent to the state fire marshal. Village Manager Theodore E. Ridley, due to flooded basements Tuesday morning, engaged Burgess & Niple sanitary engineers of Columbus to survey sanitary and storm sewers, with an estimate to be provided next week. they were recommended by Westerville’s city manager.
The Carey JayCees and Kiwanis club met in Gibbins dining room with Kiwanis vice president Joe Newhard in charge. Guest speaker Jerry Smolik of Cleveland, a state JayCee vice president and lecturer, urged citizens to fulfill duties at local state and federal levels. He warned today shapes tomorrow for the younger generation.
The Priscilla Guild convenes tonight at Christ Lutheran Church following the Lenten service. Mrs Reid Heck leads devotion while Mrs R D Hauenstein leads the lesson. Hostesses are Mrs Kenneth Heilman and Mrs Elgin Bayes. A special missionary offering for Charles Springer is planned. Those absent may send contributions.
Carey Aerie No 2198 of the Fraternal Order of Eagles moved into a newly redecorated social room on the first floor. The remodel was completed by local lodge members. No dances will be held during Lent.
Mr. and Mrs William Dotson and daughter Toni return from Guam where Mr Dotson served in the U S Navy. They are due in Carey today or tomorrow. They were greeted in San Francisco by Mr Dotson's parents, Monroe Dotson and Mrs Dotson's father J H Snobarger, who left Carey February 25.
Mrs Ollive Beck, age 60, traveling from a point 60 miles southwest of Carey, arrived Friday for her first visit since Christmas. She is slowly recovering from back injuries sustained last August.
