TheUtah paper announces G A Hartman and Dorothy Hast as sponsors of the sports section with Rose Marie Davis and Hileen Mott serving as editors and Gene Myers coordinating activities alongside Joan Sargeant and Lynn McDaniel.
Seniors from area high schools attended an all county college day sponsored by Upper Sandusky last Monday. Representatives from 30 colleges and four hospitals answered questions about college life and careers.
Two senior government classes hold a mock National Convention. Five states back presidential and vice presidential candidates. Chairmen deliver nominating speeches while banners identify each state and candidate. Outcome is unknown as students learn by doing ahead of real summer conventions.
Attendance check shows 103 pupils with perfect attendance this week at Colonel Crawford despite flu. Last year 72 achieved the same. Staff hope to set a new high record as Mr Laird attributes it to pupils’ eagerness to attend school.
A large group of ladies attend a sewing course taught by Miss Thelma Hack in the high school. They meet weekly in Home Economics rooms and the cafeteria from 7 to 10 PM, many starting cotton or rayon dresses and appreciating practical value.
Donald Karcher elected president of the Carey Community Institute for 1953 with Joe Newhard as secretary and officers including Mrs. Floyd Shetler as vice treasurer. Attendance across four sessions reached 2,304, near last year’s record. Atty. Paul Burson thanked G. A. Hartman and Cloyce Werntling for help, and praise went to Sister M. Florence, Miss Eleanor McChesney, Miss Thelma Clagett and Lewis Hawk for supervision. Prizes awarded in home arts displays with modest cash awards, honoring winners in pillows, clothing, rugs, crochet, needlework, trays, plastic purses, dolls, potholders, and more.
Village council heard requests for building permits by Dr. Talmadge Huston and the Silverstein Iron Co. A resident was denied a chicken coop permit on Adam Street until sewer work is completed. Ridley outlined a 3 year tree trimming plan with Davey Tree Expert Co. hired to reduce power outages. Dust control efforts and bids for Dew equipment were discussed.
Mr and Mrs M J Saltzman sold the building formerly known as the River Cave to the Church of the Nazarene. Interior redecorated. first service at 2 30 pm Sunday led by Rev Centpores of Tiffin. Located 5 miles northwest of Carey on Route 15. all are invited.
American Legion Auxiliary members planning to attend the Columbus mid winter conference are urged to pay their bus fare to Mrs. L Reynolds at 125 Dow St or Mrs KE Bakies at 108 E North St no later than Friday. They will meet at 715 am at Houk's corner to take a chartered bus.
The JayCeeJays will meet Monday evening at the home of Mrs. C Arthur Yeoman. Hostesses include Mrs. Kenneth Myers Mrs. Arden Coppler and Mrs. R J Murphy with Jerry Smolik of Cleveland as guest speaker.
Mr and Mrs C C Simonis sold their residence at 527 W North Street to Dr and Mr R J Murphy who will take possession the first of April The Simons plan to rent a home for the present.
The T R C club meets this Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Ralph Haford southeast of Carey.
The Carey Businessmen's Association mailed double postal cards to every resident asking whether to open stores Friday and Saturday nights or keep Wednesday and Saturday hours. If more favor Friday Saturday openings, changes will be made. The association urges residents to mail returned cards un signed. The Carey Kiwanis club met with guest speaker Mrs. George Newhard on vocational guidance at Carey High School.
Cpl Leonard H Longanecker of the 69th Fighter Squadron lists a new address in Falmouth Massachusetts and Otis A Sadun of the A F B shares a changed post office address line. The notice records updated locations for servicemen.

The Woman's Society of Christian Service will hold a luncheon at First Methodist Church at 1 p m Wednesday March 12 Circle No 4 members led by Mrs Frederick will host and Mrs Harold Houk will lead the program on the topic Workers together with God.

In Ohio v Benjamin Puckett the defendant pleaded guilty to assault with intent to kill. Judge Kear suspended sentence pending prosecutorial investigation. If the investigation shows no further offense probation lasts three years under stated terms.
Carlton Jenot and Richard Kitzler plan a mid April move to a new cement block building on N Lake Street. The 80 by 32 foot structure includes a showroom 32 by 24 feet with Huston Lumber Co handling construction. They will continue selling Norge appliances and a range of fixtures, furnaces, pumps, and plumbing services.
Luther Ritter of 131 Newhard Street was admitted to Blanchard Valley hospital Tuesday for an appendectomy. The appendix had ruptured and an abscess formed making immediate surgery risky, with treatment including injections to dry up the abscess and a possible operation later when his condition improves.
Pfe Judson Virden son of Mr and Mrs D. B. Virden east of Carey has two months training in the advanced administration school at Fort Jackson. After completion he will rejoin his airborne battalion from Fort Benning now on maneuvers in Texas.

Seven Wyandot county young men left for Toledo and induction Friday forenoon. The group boarded the 9:15 bus with names including Roger Predklix Dreys of Marion Basil Lavern Moore Allan Wesley De Vene Jr and others from Carey Upper Sandusky and Wharton. The March 17 pre induction physicals will include 15 Wyandot county residents and two will be inducted at the March 21 call.
Carey JayCee members join statewide gathering at Deshler-Wallick hotel Columbus. Local president Joe Newhard state VP Paul Burson attend Saturday with Donald Keller Carl Turnbell Arden Doppler and Herbert Schubert of Detroit. Sunday trustees Newhard and Turnbell represent Carey at luncheon with more than 700 locals present.
Jerry C Smolik of Cleveland state vice president of the Junior Chamber of Commerce will address three groups on Monday He will speak to high school students at noon and at 6 pm he will be guest speaker at a joint Kiwanis JayCees meeting at Gibbins restaurant Later he will talk to the JayCeeJays at Mrs DcArthur Yeomans home His story focuses on education and vocational guidance for youth noting he left school at age 14 due to family finances and has pursued various occupations.
Residents of Crawford and Carey vicinities will air a musical and historical program on radio station WRED Worthington at 130 p.m. next Thursday March 9. Mrs S W McChesney plays piano, Elea nor McChesney violin, Samuel McChesney III trombone, and Mark Karr will give a brief history of Col William Crawford. All are welcome to attend.
