Local resident F. C. Beebe in east town drove an automobile a distance of over a mile with no gas tank on board. The 90 Overland ran normally until the tank fell from the vehicle and was found later. Beebe, deaf, did not hear it drop, illustrating motoring without fuel storage.
The Men’s Brotherhood meets at 8:00 tonight at President George Newhard’s home and urges strong attendance to swell the midweek crowd. The pastor continues the sermon series Some Fundamentals of the Christian Faith with a discussion on Did God Create. The Four-Square campaign in Sunday school shows early effects and members are urged to enter calendars from March 31 to April 4 for upcoming events.
S Hart and his wife celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Wednesday. He devoted 23 years to public school teaching with notable success. He also served as clerk of Carey village for years and 14 years as clerk of the Board of Affairs, frequently attending two meetings weekly. He never missed a meeting and was late only once for five minutes.
A 9 pound son born to Mr and Mrs Herman Gibbs Monday morning followed by a 10 pound daughter for Mr and Mrs Jesse Mac Laughlin. An 8 pound daughter born to Mr and Mrs Ernest Smith three miles north of town Tuesday night. A 10 pound daughter born to Mr and Mrs Howard Gobrecht Saturday named Moneta Elizabeth.
Ambrose Bland of five and a half miles east of town suffered a severe hand injury while helping at Alf Bland’s. His left hand contact with the saw severed the thumb and first two fingers. Doctors Van Buren and Siddall treated him. He was moved from Florent Day’s to Mrs. Van Doren Gibson’s home for care.
About 15 property owners attended Monday evening’s hearing on the Dow street ditch petitioned by BE G Snyder and others. With town funds limited, several residents pledged to raise the remaining funds.
The Philathea Class of the Evan gelical Sunday school will hold a bake sale on Saturday March 15 in the Rest Room starting at 10 00 a m Proceeds benefit church activities and missions.
The 16th Carey Farmers Institute drew a smaller crowd but featured strong talks by Ida A. Durbin of Fredericktown and L. L. Rummel of Columbus. They urged modernized farming, calf clubs, and youth involvement, with Durbin stressing education and practical living and Rummel discussing hog feeding and pork production.
The local pest campaign final tally is postponed to March 22 at 6:00 p.m. Howard Miller, former Carey high school agriculture teacher, took the records to Pennsylvania. FL J Ruble, his successor, will conclude counting and may accept additional points at the high school or Mrs. A. H. Kennerley's home through next week.
The Earl Green Post No 344 American Legion hosted a card party and meal for 40 members and guests involved in a minstrel show. Howard Snyder acted as master of ceremonies and the gathering praised the post and planned the next meeting for Tuesday evening March 18.
Friday evening T. W. Beatty superintendent of the National Electric Porcelain plant was overcome by gas at his N Vance street home. After supper he went to the bathroom to dress and fainted twice, first on arrival of his wife and again about 9 00 pm. Doctors attributed the incident to a hot Resnor stove in a heated bathroom and Beatty may have bent to lower the flame when he collapsed.
The Evangelical church choir invites members to a Thursday pot luck supper at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Green on North Street. A free will offering will be collected to fund new choir music. Everyone is invited to enjoy the planned pleasant evening.
The Bluffton College Glee Club will present a sacred concert at the Methodist church next Sunday night at 7:00. The public is invited and a free will offering will be taken.
All Pythian Sisters are asked to attend the regular meeting this evening to prepare for the inspection set for April 10. The annual mystery box will also be featured at the meeting.
A Findlay Branch engine derailed Tuesday at the T and O C transfer in Findlay but caused no injuries or major damage. Wrecking crews were dispatched to clear the scene.
A. J. King has rented the Bish room on Main Street and will relocate his confectioners and grocers from the Straw room on Vance Street to the new location around April 11. The move consolidates shops into a single premises and expands the business footprint.
All members of the C. L. of C are urged to attend at the Parish Hall on Monday March 17 at 2 00 o clock to help prepare the banquet.
The Victory Class of the MEOSS will serve a Penny Supper at the church on Monday evening March 24. The public is invited to attend and support the church fund.
