Carey High School gym opens with dual basketball courts

The new Carey High School gymnasium seats over 1700 and hosts two basketball games simultaneously while two shuffleboard teams compete. It features 36 lights, two east end loudspeakers, and foldable seats that widen the floor. About 150 boys use it daily for intramural games.

Carey seniors stage The Diary of Anne Frank

The Carey seniors present The Diary of Anne Frank at the high school auditorium on March 19 and 20. The cast includes Debbie Strahm as Anne and Sue Roynon as Margot with Ruth Black and George Cressman as the Van Daans and Steve Zender as Peter. The production uses four simultaneous playing areas to show life in hiding with Emogene Perkins as Miep and Jim Heck as Mr. Kraler guiding events.

Carey Escapes Major Damage In Two Storms

Damage in Carey from a windstorm and a sleet and ice storm was minor compared with neighboring towns. No injuries reported. Roofs, antennas, and a car were damaged, limbs fell blocking streets, and power and telephone service were disrupted with repairs continuing through Wednesday.

A. J. Dibling, longtime manager of the Carey Farmers' Co operative Co elevator, submitted his resignation to the directors effective March 9. Kenneth Dible is acting as temporary manager until a replacement is found. Dibling has not announced his future plans.

Swan Rubber Carey Plant Transferred to Ace Molded

Amerace Corporation realigns major divisions under J. T. Whitely to focus on markets served. The Swan Rubber Company plants at Lineville Alabama and Carey Ohio move to Ace Molded Products which gains non battery lines while American Hard Rubber concentrates on storage battery components. Ace Molded operates plants in Akron Ohio and Butler New Jersey with Booneville Arkansas producing ACE Combs and ACE bowling balls. Supplex division moves under Swan Rubber to Bucyrus Ohio. Other divisions remain unchanged.

Carey School Board to seek 2 mill levy at May primary

The Carey Board of Education voted Monday evening to present a 2 mill operating levy to voters at the May primary. State aid to Carey Schools was cut back about $7 000 to $8 000 recently with threats of further cuts. Carey voters rejected a 114 mill levy last fall.

The Carey Conservation Sportsmen Association will hold a general membership meeting at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the clubhouse. Carey bowler hits first ABC sanctioned 300 in Carey history

Blaine Sprat Thomas, 51, of 752 W Findlay St, bowled a perfect 300 at Bowl Era Lanes Sunday, first ABC sanctioned 300 in Carey. The 36 year veteran earns a $1000 jackpot prize plus a $100 savings bond and other awards from sponsors including Lanning Motor Sales and The Carey Times. He teamed with his wife Jean and Paul Koepfer in the Mixed Doubles League as his 300 capped a 699 first two games of 190 and 199. Bowl Era Lanes will host a steak supper next Tuesday for sponsors and Thomas.
