Mrs. Jerome Bernard of Carey High School won Wyandot County in a statewide safety slogan contest led by the Ohio Department of Highway Safety. She received a merit certificate from Joe Gallon of Toledo. Bernard’s motto Life Has No Spare Take Care Get There advocates vigilance to reduce traffic accidents. John W. Shiveley of London won the grand prize for his 1955 station wagon related slogan You Bet Your Life Safety Pays.

A one story shed at the Wyandot Dolomite plant on SR 509 burned Tuesday morning. Insurance covered losses estimated at 1800 for the building and 700 for contents including a time clock and vending machines. Carey firemen fought the blaze from 10 51 a m as high winds hindered suppression and possible fuel oil stove origin is suspected.
