Mrs. Jerome Bernard of Carey High School won Wyandot County in a statewide safety slogan contest led by the Ohio Department of Highway Safety. She received a merit certificate from Joe Gallon of Toledo. Bernard’s motto Life Has No Spare Take Care Get There advocates vigilance to reduce traffic accidents. John W. Shiveley of London won the grand prize for his 1955 station wagon related slogan You Bet Your Life Safety Pays.

Fire Destroys Dolomite Plant Lunchroom Shed

A one story shed at the Wyandot Dolomite plant on SR 509 burned Tuesday morning. Insurance covered losses estimated at 1800 for the building and 700 for contents including a time clock and vending machines. Carey firemen fought the blaze from 10 51 a m as high winds hindered suppression and possible fuel oil stove origin is suspected.

Poisoning Rats at Village Dump Near Carey

Village dump north of Carey was heavily baited Tuesday night and about 80 rats were found dead Wednesday morning according to Village Manager George Dunn. Dog and cat owners are urged to keep pets away from the dump to avoid poisoning.

Hendricks Installs New Baler To Process Wool

John A. Hendricks wholesaler and retailer processes 325000 pounds of sheep wool in 30 days at his E Findlay Street plant. He installed an Economy All-purpose baler with 850 to 1500 pound bale capacity and 80 percent more space efficiency, operated by Lyle Orians and Rex Hendricks. The business, started in 1894 by John Hendricks Sr., is now owned by John and Mrs. Hendricks after years with Eugene Hendricks.
