The Senior Class of Carey High selects a three act comedy Young Barry for April 4. Ed die is played by John Welsh with June Size more as a romantic lead. Tom Atkins portrays Eddie's father in a rich comedy part. The cast includes Grace Barry Mose Marie Davis Beatrice Charlotte Tucker Mabel Warren Betty Lou Niederkohr Carl Sibley Lawrence Vogel Ronnie Treece Mlenda Snyder Vince Ann Sally Tommy Miss Dalrymple Barbara Elbert Gale Sue Mapes Ann Dible William Whitenack and others. The play promises human interest clever dialogue and faithful character portrayal for an enjoyable evening.
The Hi Y meeting on February 25 opened with a brief religious service led by chaplain James Patterson. Superintendent Hartman led a short business session and presented slides on boy meets girl, proper introductions, dating manners, and respect for parents as educational points.
The seniors who took the scholarship test saw William White nack place third and John Welsh receive Honorable Mention. Towns in the upper 25 percent include Upper Sandusky Carey Nevada and Wharton.
On Friday afternoon February 22 the Carey Community Institute hosted High School Day. The High School Band performed two pieces and Rev. Hillard Camp of Findlay College addressed students on Wanted A Man. Three points emphasized sterling character courage and conviction and a mighty purpose. John Welsh Jr entertained with a magic show and several students won door prizes.
Veterans Administration service officer Co. M. Benson of Upper Sandusky will discuss veterans rights and benefits at 8 p m March 14 at the American Legion hall. The talk covers hospitalization and emergency operations and is open to all veterans.
A series of birth notices items list several newborns with parents from Carey Tiffin McComb Marion Kellogg Wichita Adrian Wyandot Upper Sandusky and Pandora. Included are Cathy Marle Steven Edward William Mearl Shaun Robert and other newborns with weights and early February dates.
The notice lists altered addresses for service members including Pfe William D Bayes with unit 497th Recon Tech and S/Sgt Nicholas A Collet of the 3202nd Installations Group at Eglin AFB Florida, with new mailing details via O flags.
Service records note Corporal Donald M Callahan of the 80th Bombardment Squadron 19th Bomb Group with mail address C/o Postmaster San Francisco California and Army post office details.
The F H A girls hold a bake sale at Dible's Plumbing Co in Carey on Saturday March 1 starting at 10 o'clock. They raise funds for their spring Mother Daughter banquet and urge community support.
Regular meeting of Carey chapter No. 159 Royal Arch Masons will be held Monday evening March 3. W. E. Cole H P.
Carey Farmers Community club held its annual banquet at First Methodist Church with Woman's Society of Christian Service hostesses serving. T. D. Rodbmig welcomed attendees while Mrs. Mary Lou Pfeiffer spoke on You and the United Nations stressing bridge building between city and rural women and opposing prejudice and ignorance. Mrs. McChesney and daughter provided piano and violin music during dinner.
Carey McCutchenville Wharton and Salem township schools sponsor a benefit showing Kon-Tiki at the Carey theater on March 6 7 and 8 with three nightly showings at 6 8 and 10 o clock. Proceeds go to library books band uniforms and student council activities. Walt Disney Olympic Elk is also on the program in color.
Mr and Mrs Fred Fisher and daughters Judy and Jane plan a Friday move to Madison Wisconsin where Fisher will manage E R Godfrey and Sons Co wholesale house since January 1 He will travel this afternoon to collect his family Mrs Agnes Shull mother in law will visit relatives in Upper Sandusky then rent a new apartment on Toledo street with the Phillips family
The Men's Brotherhood of Christ Lutheran Church hosts a pancake and sausage supper for Methodist men at 6 30 this evening in church parlors. Rev W E Bradley of Findlay will speak. Kirk Milling Co provides a 3 foot square griddle and pancake flour free for all the pancakes.
Homer Bleam and daughters Yvonne Judy and Linda plan to move this week to a house three miles west of Carey on Route 165. The property was bought from the Chesebrough estate by David Walter and was formerly occupied by Ralph Phillips and family. The Bleams have been living at 207 South Patterson Street in a residence purchased from Miss Della Gilliland by Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Baker.
Mr and Mrs C J Adelsperger and daughter Carol of northeast of Carey and Miss Ruth Adelsperger of Fosteria will attend the capping ceremonies of Toledo hospital school of nursing on Tuesday evening March 4. Miss Faye and Miss Ferne Adelsperger, twin daughters of the family, are among the class members.
The Humus Co completed a galvanized building 30 by 90 feet north of Carey and installs a 114 ton dryer said to be the largest in the United States. The unit, eight feet in diameter and 78 feet long, was held by Houston sanitation officials and represents a $25 000 investment. Geologist and manager T W Rodebaugh says capacity will triple. The dryer uses crude oil for fuel purchased in Findlay and Upper Sandusky, consuming 35 to 40 gallons per hour.
Bishop Hazen G. Werner speaks by transcription from Columbus for 11:15 a m radio broadcast heard in about 300 000 Ohio Methodist worshipers. The 15 minute sermon is part of morning services with radios in churches and homes statewide. Carey Methodist church coordinators include Robert Gardner and William E Cole.
The American Legion allows Brownie troop 35 to use Legion hall for meetings at 7 45 p m each Wednesday. Mrs. W W Clark and Miss Rosann Tschantz lead the troop and thank the Legion and committee members for arranging space. Troop 36, with 28 Brownies, can now meet together after previous division due to space limits.
Car licenses trailer licenses and applications for truck licenses will be sold at Krupp's grocery starting March 1, 1952. Certificate of title and 1951 registration card must be presented before a license can be issued. Store hours from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The Victory class of the Methodist Sunday school will meet Wednesday evening March 5 in the home of Mrs Forrest Baker north of Carey. Mrs Clinton Baker and Mrs Hattie Presler will assist as hostesses and Mrs Walter Craft will lead devotions.
The mid winter conference of the American Legion Auxiliary Department of Ohio will be held March 8 in Columbus. The local unit will charter a bus for the trip if 30 members attend. Contact Mrs J L Reynolds 125 Down street phone 2674 by March 1.
Carey high school's Future Homemakers of America will hold a bake sale on Saturday starting at 10 a m at Dibles plumbing shop. Your patronage will be appreciated.
Bluffton village council repealed a 3 percent admission tax on amusements citing discriminatory impact. Tax collections came mainly from a few venues such as motion picture theaters and school events. The tax yielded $8389 in the year and about $1000 the prior year.
Mrs S W McChesney daughter Eleanor and son Samuel III are invited to present a musical program at WRFD Worthington at 1 30 p m Thursday March 13 The invitation came from Mrs Mary Lou Pfeiffer director of women's activities at WRED who urged a brief history of Col William Crawford and the Crawford Methodist church and said Crawford and Carey residents are welcome to visit the station during the broadcast
Acting Mayor C. B. Gibbons proclaims Friday February 29 as a day of prayer amid world uncertainty. Citizens may pray at home or gather publicly to remember the needs of the country and world before God.
A Wyandot County Cancer Society directors meeting on February 19 discussed an April campaign. The group also received a thank you letter from Wyandot County Hospital for supplies donated, and the society continues to furnish dressings and other assistance. The Carey Band Mothers will meet at 8 p m Monday in the high school. The committee includes Mrs Lowell Treece chairman and several vice chairs. a good attendance is desired as several important events will be discussed.
Mr and Mrs Lyle Marine and family will move this afternoon from Bellefontaine to the Fred Fisher residence at 124 S Patterson Street in Carey. Marine is a telegraph operator for the New York Central replacing Roy Ryder who retired. The Marine family includes three sons and a daughter one son serving in the U S Air Corps.
Julia A Hart of Carey route 2 earned recognition on the University of Toledo honor roll for the fall semester. A sophomore in education, Hart was among 168 students named to the honor roll announced by acting registrar Alina Markowski.
Royal Arch Masons Cla rey chapter 159 will hold an inspection Friday evening with a dinner served at 6 30 p m.
Round and square dancing held each Saturday night at Eagles hall for members and their families.
The World Day of Prayer will be observed Friday afternoon starting at 2 30 at First Methodist Church Algo. Participating churches include Memorial E A B Christ Lutheran and Crawford. The event, organized by United Church Women, supports interdenominational missions at home and abroad with equal sharing of funds.
Mrs. J. T. Stombaugh suffered a dislocation of her left shoulder and body bruises when she fell from back steps onto a gravel driveway Saturday evening. She called a physician and was taken to Mercy hospital in Tiffin by her son-in-law David OFlaherty, staying until Sunday noon before returning home with her son Robert as her family returned.
Mrs. Clifton Coffman of northwest of Carey spoke with brother Carl Leslie of Ronceverte West Virginia by long distance. He and his wife and son David are in good health. he was discharged from the air force after serving as a sergeant in Japan delivering supplies to Korea. Their brother in law Ernest Allen, called from Carey for medical exams for the armed services, has passed and will soon be inducted.
Henry Lortz of Nevada builds a six room modern house on a two acre triangular lot in Crawford between Highway 23 and the old state road. He bought the land from Thomas Calkins. Joseph Thiry oversees the carpenter work.
Mr and Mrs Calvin Callahan learn their son Cpl Donald M Callahan has arrived in Okinawa on February 14. He left San Francisco by plane in February and wrote from Hawaii and Wake Island while en route.
The Philathea Ladies Bible class of Memorial E A B Sunday school will gather at 7 30 p m Tuesday at the home of Mrs Andrew Ringle.
