A 1920 photo captures Trubey and Grine’s implement yard on WN Vance Street as the first carload of tractors from the Huber plant at Marion Ohio arrives. The image lists many unidentified individuals including local clergy, sales staff, and residents, with the Kinsey Montague home and Carey Times caption nearby seeking identifications.
Ohio Industrial Arts teachers met in Columbus on Thursday and Friday with Harry Klotz in attendance. He displayed sheet metal projects and several schools presented works in sheet metal plastics woodwork electricity and drawing. Demonstrations and discussion groups covered new fields and current high school industrial arts problems.
At the February 20 Y-Teens meeting Mrs. Dorothy East spoke on vacations with a ster tropic Your Future Is What You Make it The Secret Sisters were revealed and each girl chose a Secret Sister A weeklong Secret Sister exchange ran from Valentine’s Day to the meeting A business amendment to the constitution listed those owing dues pins were to be ordered soon and Dad-Daughter date set for March 16 Committees were named including Entertainment Food Decorations Invitations and Devotions and the closing Friendship Circle.
On Tuesday February 21 the physical education assembly featured Tom Gutting and Dick Mullineaux formerly at the University of Illinois presenting two gymnasium devices the trampoline and the trampolete. They began with basics and performed advanced moves including triple and side somersaults flips twists and various bounces to thrill attendees.
Supt. G A Hartman spoke to the sociology class on February 20 to conclude the Education as a Social Institution chapter. He distributed an outline showing four years of Carey school progress and future goals including more teachers smaller classes a guidance program a library upgrade a part time nurse a vocational agriculture department and driver education and vocal music. He called for a new high school building to support a better curriculum as the current facility serves 385 pupils from a 150 capacity.
Wilfred Lawrence Timmons, 34, of 9 Eighth Avenue Tiffin also known as J C J L and C L Anderson was arrested Friday at 11 am by Carey police near the Carey Motor Service on EH Find lay street in a charge if cashing a forged check Mayor G C Wagner turned Timmons over to Tiffin province where he was wanted on charges of cashing four forged checks Friday morning Timmons stopped at the Silverstein Iron and Auto Wrecking Co and made a purchase totaling 4 He gave Max Silverstein a check for 30 and Silverstein gave him 26 in cash The check was endorsed
The Carey Crawford township trustees condemn roadside litter and announce a dumping ground agreement with William B Decker located north of Carey on state route 509 near the Redman quarry. Residents may disposal non paper and household refuse there free of charge, urging public cooperation.
The Humus Co northwest of Carey installs oil burner dryer dust collector and elevators as part of a remodeling program underway for several months. New equipment completed this week with expected full completion of the project.
Band Mothers will meet Monday evening March 6 at 8 o'clock. All members are urged to be present. The Committer.
Regular meeting of Carey lodge No. 407 I C O F announced for Thursday evening March 2 at 8 00. Members urged to attend. Secretary VAN Baker signs the notice.
Local industries showcased products at the Carey Community Institute last week. Swan Rubber Co led with a wide display of hoses tires and related parts, while other exhibitors featured limestone products from National Lime and Stone Co and household and agricultural items from Haimes, Seiberling, Humus, and Porcelain Products.
The Carey Kiwanis Club February meeting featured the Boys and Girls committee led by Supt Hartman presenting high school speech students under Miss Thelma Clagett. Paul England directed the program with two playlets, musical readings by Glenna Moser and John Wedge, a Judy Hill monologue, and four sophomore boys performing a short skit The Flea Gang Takes Up Smoking.
The Woman's Society of Christian Service of First Methodist Church will hold a luncheon meeting Wednesday March 8 at 1 pm in the church. Circle No 3 led by Mrs. George Shuman will prepare the luncheon. The topic is Christian Advance in Japan. Mrs. Fred Mitchell will conduct devotions. All women of the church are invited.
The T. R. C. club plans an all day gathering at the home of U. A. Vanighn east of Carey. A potluck dinner will be served at noon.
The Rev Raymond K Beals pastor of Howard Methodist Findlay will address the Lenten Family Night Fellowship supper at First Methodist Church Carey Tonight at 6 30 p m The program continues after 7 30 p m for those unable to attend the full supper.
Dorcas Carey Public Library adds a practical guide titled How to Develop Your Executive Ability. The volume analyzes the careers of 130 top executives 50 mid level men and 50 small establishment managers to explain four essential leadership qualities and methods for handling men.
Carey residents face limited coal with 30 tons and slack remaining. Dealers aim to share supplies to avoid hardship. Some coal promised by truckers from Ohio mines not yet delivered. Public schools report adequate stock if severe weather does not last. Our Lady of Consolation School has about four weeks on hand.
The Carey Band Mothers will meet at 8 p m Monday at the high school. They sponsored a February 18 dance that was well attended and they express appreciation to all who helped make it a success.
Johnny Watts captain of the Harlem Aces will lead his team against the Bursons on March 21 at the high school gym. Watts averages 21.2 points per game and has the team at 91 wins and 4 losses this season. The Bursons, 18-1, counter with Bill Dennison at 24 points per game and players Speedy Jack Kitzler and Gene Binan.
The Carey WCTWU will hold a Friday meeting at the Gilliland home, 207 S Patterson, for a short business period then rag rag making. Volunteers may donate wool, silk, rayon, nylon or cotton for rug rags to be sent to the Blind Veterans Home in Dayton.
American Legion Post 344 announces a Monday March 6 meeting at 8 30 pm chaired by Commander Kermit Peterson. Dues are due. All members urged to attend.
Service of the Crawford Methodist church will meet at 8 p m Friday in the home of Mrs Richard Stiefel at Lovell.
Eagles invite readers to enjoy America’s favorite pastime each Friday evening at local venues. Organized by community group, the program promises friendly games and social gathering opportunities for residents.
Carey Institute drew 2385 attendees over Thursday and Friday at the high school auditorium. Officers elected for 1951 include President Robert Mott Vice President Paul Burson and Secretary Treasurer Mrs William Cole Host and hostess Mr and Mrs Carl Kron.
The Moose annual Polio dance will be held on March 65 1950 at the Local Moose hall. Proceeds go to the Wyandot County Polio fund with admission open to the public. The polio committee aims to finish the campaign soon after March and prizes include two life memberships drawn at 1000 p m for dues paid. Moose urged to attend and bring a friend.
Arthur Allen of the Wyandot and Crawford county Salvation Army units will solicit in Wyandot County during the next month. He will carry identification papers to show to interested residents.
Mr and Mrs Merlin E Collingwood will open a photography studio next Monday on Walker Street in Sandusky. They reside with Mrs Colmewood's parents Mr and Mrs August G Windau.
