Absentee counts show a fluctuating but declining pattern with 87 on Wednesday rising to 109 on Thursday and Friday then easing to 89 Monday and 84 Tuesday, a new low for two weeks. The Wyandot county scholarship committee met in Upper Sandusky to discuss test administration changes and the senior scholarship test will be held April 1. Rev Ewing Potter delivered a temperance lecture to high schoolers sponsored by the Wyandot county ministerial association. Upper Sandusky has lent bleacher seats for the sectional tournament. Carey High School and Butler of Richland county drew in the sectional draw, with Carey making its first appearance Friday at 7:30 p m. Girl Reserves held a large meeting with recreation and a spaghetti supper, while Hi Yes discussed friendship and planned a father and son banquet in two weeks.

In Mrs Criger's history class students made salt and flour maps of the New England, Middle, Southern, and Thirteen Colonies. Perfect spelling scores include Donald Krebs and others. Attendance was poor due to sickness. Rose mary Rook, the room news reporter, was ill. Tests were deferred to this week as they study Saving Human Lives and figures like Florence Nightingale and Clara Barton.

The Farmers and Sportsmen Protective association of Carey met at the American Legion hall on February 28. The club now has 10 farmers and 45 sportsmen, with a continued drive for new members. By-laws were printed and distributed, discussions covered hunting and fishing issues, and plans for future entertainment were considered to foster better understanding between groups.

Herbert Newhard Sr received the 50 year medal and life certificate from his brother George Newhard. J D Carothers, oldest member, attended. he has been a member for nearly six decades.

Troiano Residence Damaged by Fire
The Carey fire department responded to a Wednesday afternoon blaze at Mr. and Mrs. Frank Troiano’s Findlay street home. Smoke filled the house before investigators found a charred floor spot, with defective wiring blamed as the likely cause.
