Eagles and Lodge Celebrate Polio Fund Drive Gifts

Carey Aerie No. 2198 of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Eagles Auxiliary raised 200.81 for the Mothers March on Polio from a polio dance chicken supper and donations. The total for Carey’s Mothers March reached 929.13 with further coin deposits and a 200 gift to Boys Village Smithville plus 56 from the Auxiliary. Award notices marked their November December membership gain of 26 and a January 10 1956 reading at Zanesville Ohio.

Open House Highlights West Col. Crawford Carey Schools PTA

West School Col Crawford School and Carey High School opened their doors for PTA night with all classrooms staffed by teachers ready to meet parents. Mrs. Clark Offen bacher Wisner Evans Smiley Dible served refreshments. Douglas Myers announced a bake sale March 10. Miss Wentling’s 4th grade won the PTA attendance banner. About 140 parents and teachers attended with many visitors touring classrooms.

Wings over Jordan Choir Delivers Negro Spiritual Concert

The famed Wings over Jordan choir gave an engaging concert of Negro spirituals Friday at Carey High School auditorium. Guests at a post show potluck in Christ Lutheran Church dining room were hosted by Furst Methodist and Lutheran Church members. About 500 attended the dinner. Choir members stayed as overnight guests in local homes of the Heck, Brandt, Dible, Davis, and Newhard families.

Eugene Hendricks and Dwight Rickle, tenants on Hendricks farm near Mt Blanchard, specialize in registered Berkshire hogs. They report 40 to 50 head and believe they are the only breeders of registered Berkshires in the area.

Patrolman Tong Suspended 10 Days Over Police Car Prank

Village officials suspend Patrolman Hobart M Tong for 10 days without pay for leaving the police car running unattended while Tong was at breakfast. The vehicle vanished for 45 minutes and was found behind Carey Motor Service on Elm Hull Road. Charges include failing to radio out, neglect of duty with village property, not reporting theft, and not notifying the chief.

Senior Scholarship Test Results and Columbus Trip

Michael Ball placed 4th in the county with a 198 score while James Baehs of Nevada held the county high with 208. Paul Vaughn and Don Shaffer were in the top 20 with honorable mention. Sophomores Rally To Beat Freshmen In Thriller

The sophomores overcame an eight point third quarter deficit to win 55 to 47 Monday afternoon at the high school arena. Tom Greer and Jim Messmer fouled out for the freshmen, while sophomore coach Posie Jenkins used a pot hanging offense that sparked the comeback as 17 paying fans enjoyed the wild finish.

Red Cross Fund Drive Begins In Carey Today

Red Cross drive starts in Carey with a $1400 quota joining Wyandot county and the nation in the annual Roll Call. Campaign slogan On the Job Join and Serve. Mrs Clarence J Hagley is general chairman with Robert D Hale as co chairman. Division captains named include Mrs Hugh Hayman Mrs Oren Wilgus Mrs Willard Barth and Mrs Harry Rook. Ice fishing trip nets 25 pounds near North Bass Island

Six local men fished off North Bass Island in Lake Erie last Thursday and Friday, hauling about 25 pounds of fish. Participants included E F Shane, David Ogg, Gerald Traxler, Paul Heck, Ben Kemmerly and C M Courtad. Traxler lost his upper dentures when removing his lower plate and the uppers dropped into a hole in the ice.

Fremont Workers Short of Pay in City Budget Shortfall

Fremont sees a second pay gap as 57 municipal workers including 22 police, 18 firefighters, and 8 park and incinerator staff go unpaid. Thirteen workers collecting trash receive partial pay while Auditor Clara K. Gibbs says funds are not in sight.

Eligible Wyandot Seniors Eligible for Two Year Teaching Scholarship

High school seniors in Wyandot county schools in the upper half of their class with plans for a teaching career may apply for a two year scholarship. Applications go to County Schools Superintendent D W Oman at the county courthouse. Committee members include Ruth Matteson Helen Seebach and Clayce Wentling. Only five seniors may be sent to college next fall from funds provided by the Ohio Legislature. Each scholarship covers 500 dollars a year for two years with a two year teaching requirement or repayment with interest. Deadline for applications is June 10.

Carey Ends Season With 14 Victories

The Carey Blue Devils finished with a 14 win season after a 71 53 victory over Clyde in the consolation game at Fremont. Jerry Orians led scoring with 23 points, followed by Stone and White. Clyde’s top scorers were Jennings and Dencer with 14 each. Rossford edged Gibsonburg 58 57 to reach district play at Clyde.

Farm Families Move Nearby Farms This Week

Mr and Mrs Alfred Yost and family plan to move this week from Frank Bees 170 acre farm northeast of Carey on Greer Road to the Mrs Jerome Reinhart farm east of Alvada. Mr and Mrs Eugene Collet will move Saturday from the Herman Fredritz farm north of town on Wonder road to the Boes place. Mr Collet will continue to farm for Mr and Mrs William Green.

Mr and Mrs John W R Creagh announce the adoption of a little son named John William at their home on Brinbourne Avenue Cleveland. They already have a daughter Ellen Kathleen, now four, whom they adopted when she was an infant.
