On Monday afternoon February 19 students and faculty gathered in the high school auditorium for the Carey chapter induction of new National Honor Society members. Five new members Tom Atkins Rose Marie Davis Glenda Gunther Glenda Snyder and Charlotte Tucker were received into the society as a brief program highlighted by a piano prelude and speeches on the four pillars leadership character service and scholarship. The group plans an all school dance on April 27.
The Hi-Y club met last Monday February 19 with Mr Hartman giving a speech on scholarship. Members plan regular meetings on the third Monday and aim to develop good citizens through successful programs and involvement.
Last Tuesday the seniors heard Karl G. Saenger from the District Social Security Administration discuss the 1960 amendments. The talk included an open Q and A and left students with useful, lasting information.
The Y-Teens gathered Monday evening February 19 with Judy Hill reading a poem and Barbara Elbert reciting scripture. Faye Adelgperger led a brief business session as Miss Grieser the advisor addressed the group on the Y-Teen organization and its improvement methods. The club planned a splash party in the near future.
The Speech class presented a February 22 program for the annual Community Institute on a Thursday afternoon. Narrator Hugene Lanker introduced the event with a reading titled Her First Vote followed by a monologue June Night by Betty Niederkohr. A purpose play The Broken Circle then followed with cast members George Jacobs Tommy Atkins Ronald Van Buren Kenneth Wenner Henry Collet Charlotte Tucker Lawrence Vogel and Bar.
The Northwestern Ohio Industrial Arts Meeting was held at Carey High School on February 21 with about 60 teachers from district schools. Instructors presented shop projects for discussion as open house in the High School shop was followed by a dinner in the cafeteria.
The Rev. Norman L. Schreiber of Westgate Methodist Church Columbus will headline the Lenten Family Night Fellowship supper at First Methodist Church this evening. Attendees are asked to bring a covered dish and table service for 6:30 PM. those absent for supper can arrive around 7:30 PM to hear him.
The Carey Band Mothers club will convene at 8 p m Monday March 5 in Carey High School. The committee led by chairman Mrs Harry Rook includes Mrs Ethel Phipps Mrs Russell Twining Mrs Don Hunter Mrs Orvil Putnam Mrs Ira Hablitzel Mrs George Carron Mrs Clarence Tucker and Mrs Edgar Keller. Attendees will map plans for the April 6 annual benefit dance.
Judge Russell H. Kear of Upper Sandusky spent February 13 to 22 in Columbus attending hearings on the Scioto Sandusky conservancy district. He was one of 14 judges from the district. Hearings resume March 19. Local interest appeared limited as many areas were not represented by property owners.
Eagles of District No 14 plan a Sunday meeting with initiation of candidates on March 11. Following the initiation a refreshments and program will be enjoyed.
The Carey Philharmonic Society hosts a bake sale at Gray's garage this Saturday starting at 9:30 a m. Proceeds support the ensemble's activities and community outreach.
The Eagles host a Friday evening pastime event described as Americas favorite pastime with regular participation and community engagement.
Daryl Orwig president of the Tiffin Lions spoke at the Carey Kiwanis meeting in Gibbins Restaurant. He described his participation with 6 000 delegates at a national youth conference in Washington DC and urged responsible citizenship, patriotism, and democratic faith among youth leaders. Junior Kiwanis members John Sammet Jerry Hunter and James Hall attended.
Stanley Van Buren son of Dr and Mrs H K Van Buren 201 W Findlay Street Carey Ohio has been appointed to the rank of second lieutenant and assigned assistant flight leader second flight squadron A Group Air of the Ohio Wesleyan University Air Force ROTC Unit. Van Buren a junior at Ohio Wesleyan is majoring in business administration.

Ten sharp shooting clubs enter Carey for a five date CYO basketball tournament sponsored by Carey CYO to crown the season’s top team. Notable entries include Carey Porcelain Products Inc Wyandot Vaults New Riegel and Galion Weaver's Market with games March 3 4 11 17 and 18 at Catholic hall.
Miss Betty A. Myer of Waverly New York a student in religious education at Ohio Wesleyan University Delaware will address the Methodist church school Sunday morning before classes assemble Her topic An Adventure into Christian Fellowship across National and Church Boundaries The talk starts promptly at 9 30 1950 graduate of Waverly High School spent 10 weeks in 1949 at an international youth camp in Italy named Agape meaning the brotherly love of Christ The camp aims to build an international youth conference center The audience is urged to attend the talk.
At an annual meeting on January 10 stockholders re elected directors George Ash T E Dromgold Fred W Ewis H E Snyder H B Keller H A Ler ner and John S Fox. On January 17 officers were re installed with T B Dromegold president and chair George Ash and H Snyder vice presidents Fred W Ewis vice president and secretary L Culler cashier Clayton Twining assistant cashier and auditor Mrs Lucile Richardson Mrs Gaynell Johnson and Mrs Arlene Stock as assistant cashiers.
Captain John Clark Baker son of Mr and Mrs Forrest Baker Route 1 Carey will be among 1456 University of Michigan graduates completing degree requirements at the end of the fall term He earns a bachelor of science in engineering The university conducts commencement exercises annually in June.
The Victory class of the Methodist Sunday school will meet Wednesday evening March 7 at the home of Mrs C 4H Baker. Mrs Saxton Heck and Mrs Sylvester Pahl assist students and Mrs George Shuman leads devotions.
All Methodist women interested in organizing a unit of Memorial Hospital Guild are asked to stay after the family night supper and program tonight. Those not attending the program should be there at 8 30.
The Red Cross drive in Carey runs from March 1 to 15 with a $1,561.23 goal. Mrs. George Pickens of W North Street chairs the effort and has named captains for business, industries, and residential sections including Frank Frederick, Swan Rubber Co, Rob Gibson, National Time & Stone Co, Chris Baker, Porcelain Products, Frank Edwards, Seiberling, Wilbur Altman, and several area volunteers.

A new attendance milestone at the Carey Community Institute reached 2435 for last Thursday and Friday sessions. Officers elected for 1952 include President Paul A Burson and Vice President Donald Karcher. The soirée featured a safety film A Closed Book and performances by Carey high school students including vocal and instrumental numbers.

Justus Lodge No. 393 met February 27 and scheduled the rank of knight for a March 6 8 p m initiation with refreshments after. About 35 members joined a Hancock county meeting at Mt Blanchard February 20 where three candidates were conferred the rank of knight and refreshments followed. R F Wright.
1951 K2 bicycle licenses are on sale at the clerk auditor's office in the municipal building. Each bicycle owned or operated by a Village of Carey resident on public streets must display a valid license plate.
