Carey High School presents its 60 piece Concert Band in a winter concert Friday evening March 16 at 8 p.m. in the high school auditorium. The group has performed at McCutchenville Nevada High Schools and its own assemblies and Christmas concert. The program will feature old and new selections including novelty numbers and instrumental specialties with no admission charge.
Seniors toured Upper Sandusky for College Day meeting 32 college reps about finances and entrance requirements. Thirty three students joined the event. Junior girls seeking nursing met 65 hospital reps, viewing a film illustrating nurse training.
The senior class selected green and gold as colors the yellow rose as the flower and the motto Success of the longest journey begins with the first step The class has taken another step toward graduation by ordering invitations.
James Gatchel offers a playful teaching quip on proving air is needed to transmit sound. He describes a jar with a bell and a pumped out air to show no tinkling sound when air is removed, prompting student responses. Mr Schwemley calls it the correct answer in every way.
Mr G A Hartman addressed the sociology class on Education in the Carey Schools. He discussed five years of progress, current problems, and answered student questions as the class studies American social institutions of family religion and education.
Mrs. George Pickens reports captain selections for Red Cross drive with solicitors listed by captain area. By noon Tuesday contributions of 10 dollars each had been received from Krogers and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Services Sunday at 2 30 p m dedicate a 20 by 40 foot addition to St. Pauls E U B Church south of Vanlue. Rev F A Firestone of Fremont will speak. Cartwright and Pffifer singers join revival program. New furnace room and Sunday school space, redecorating and carpeting completed. Public invited to attend and inspect.
The Carey W C T U has begun its annual drive to collect rag rags for veterans at the Dayton Veterans Home. Discarded fabrics such as hosiery underwear and other textiles are wanted and may be left at the Gilliland residence or at Grace Krider's home. Members cut and sew the rags to provide spending money for the veterans.
The Priscilla Guild holds its regular monthly meeting at Christ Lutheran Church at 830 this Thursday evening. De votional leader is Mrs. Elmars Evele and lesson leader is Mrs. Gordon Wyatt. Hostesses are Miss Bernice Keller and Mrs Alden Smith.
Mrs John J Simonis received a telegram Sunday announcing her husband Pvt Simonis has arrived in Tokyo with an armored division. He is reported to be getting along fine. He is the son of Mr and Mrs John Simonis of West Findlay Street and his wife is Betty Higgenbotham.
Swine producers invited to attend a Carey school auditorium meeting on Wednesday evening March 14 at 7 30 to view a picture titled Makin Bacon. Sponsored by the Carey Farmers Coop and Wayne Feeds.
Eagles schedule weekly Friday evening games as the community gathers for the pastime. Local teams and residents join neighbors at the field to enjoy baseball and socializing under the lights.
The Bowling Green State University a cappella choir directed by Dr. James Kennedy will give a program Sunday at 4 p m in First Methodist Church. A free will offering will be received and the entire community is invited to attend.
A 6 pound 8 ounce daughter Gail Christina was born Tuesday February 27 at North Side Hospital Youngstown to Mr and Mrs Arden Moser currently in Sagami Japan with the 298th Engineer Corps. A 5 pound daughter Linda Louise born Sunday at Mercy Hospital Tiffin to Mr and Mrs Ransom Fletcher, formerly Viola Vaughn. A son David Lee born Sunday February 25 to Mr and Mrs Ernest Kitzler of Urleans with siblings Brenda Janet G. An 8-pound daughter Darlene born Tuesday February 27 Findlay Hospital to Mr and Mrs Amos Risner of Springville. The child has four siblings and the mother is Alma Green.
Mrs. Fred Ward of Bucyrus reviews Interrupted Melody by Marjorie Lawrence at Carey High School Friday at 8 pm. Miss Lawrence tells her life story as an Australian opera singer who overcame polio. Glenda Gunther plays piano and B Eileen Mott sings two solos. tickets 50 cents.
Revival services continue at St Pauls E U B Church southwest of Carey through March 18 with nightly services at 745 except Saturday focused on youth. Rev Gene Clark leads with Bob Pauline Findlay and Cartwright and Pfiffer providing music. Public urged to attend.
Carey and Wyandot county teachers plan to attend the 15th annual Heidelberg educational conference in Tiffin on Saturday March 10 Featured speakers include Michigan state superintendent Lee M Thurston FBI special agent Rabbaticchio and William F Russell president of Teachers College Columbia University The conference theme is Education for Citizenship.
The Wesleyan Guild of the Methodist Sunday school will meet Monday at 8 p m with Mrs C C Thom Mrs Samuel Gunther and Mrs Harold Houk assisting hostesses. A white elephant sale will be held.
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Stroub of 416 High Street show the bronze star citation awarded to their son Pfc. Kenneth A. Stroub RA 15 2166117 Infantry United States Army a member of Headquarters Company 24th Infantry Division. The citation covers meritorious service in Korea from July 5 to November 2, 1950 as a rifleman in the Defense Platoon. It notes roadblocks patrols outposts and perimeter defense around the Division Command Post. Stroub re en listed on February 8 at Inchon after an honorable discharge dated February 7. He had been delivering front line supplies by truck and expects combat duty with the 21st Division.
Wyandot County Scouts gather at Upper Sandusky High School March 10 at 1 30 pm to celebrate the 39th anniversary of Girl Scouting. The event features games songs and a fundraiser for the Juliette Low International Friendship Fund with all troops invited.
Corporal Joseph F. Bakies, son of Mr and Mrs Fred Bakies of Carey Ohio, serving with the Seventh Cavalry, received the Infantryman’s Badge in Korea. The honor, limited to frontline infantrymen, recognizes actual combat service and is worn above campaign ribbons on the left breast.

Twenty six members gathered in Gibbins Restaurant as Carey Kiwanis welcomed new Jr Kiwanians David Myers and George Schwemley with pins. Ohio State agent S C Cashman warned that US food supply may fall short in the fifties without land care and fertilizer use.
Justus lodge No 393 held a regular meeting March 6 with large attendance. Knights are urged to attend Tuesday March 13 for the conferring of the rank of page. Findlay Cooper Tires won 69 to 61 over New Riegel C Y O. Weaver Market beat Porce lain 69 to 46. Semifinals set for March 17 with Wyandot Vaults and Weaver's Market facing winners. Mr and Mrs Lloyd Lessig and children Marilyn Robert and Roger moved from Mrs Lee Yentzer s farm north of Carey to a recently purchased 90 acre farm five miles south of Carey. Mr Yentzer s son in law and daughter Mr and Mrs C R Taylor and children Linda and Larry of Greensboro N C will move to the vacated farm after redecorating. They arrived Monday and are staying with Mr and Mrs Yentzer. Mrs Taylor is the former Donna Yentzer.
Methodist men from about 40 churches in several counties will gather at First Methodist Church Findlay at 615 p m Monday for a fellowship dinner and program. Dr Ten nyson Guyer of Findlay will speak. Robert Creeger is secretary of the arranging committee, the first in a planned series.
The fifth Lenten Family Night Fellowship supper is at First Methodist Church. A covered dish supper starts at 6:30 followed by the film Prejudice at about 7:30. All are welcome. families should bring a covered dish and table service.
