Keller in Hospital in Iowa

Word has been received in Carey that H. B. Keller is seriously ill with a severe influenza attack at the Wolfe cataract clinic in Marshalltown Iowa. Mrs Keller and son Edgar rushed to Marshalltown. Mr Keller improved slightly and kept under an oxygen tent while cataract surgery was postponed.

Ray Hunter son of Naomi Hunter of S Vance Street is mentioned as serving in Columbus as Carey agent for the Chesapeake and Ohio railroad replacing the late Frank A. Galbroner. Ray began with the Hocking Valley in 1917 and John Rathbun at the crossing tower acts as agent.

Miami resident Lt Urban L Kokenge U S Navy son of Urban and Mrs Urban Kokenge was wounded in action during the invasion of the French coast. He led a flotilla of LCTs after graduating from Notre Dame and Gesu high school. Parents received notice from Miami authorities with no further details.

Lynn McKee Wounded In France Action

Lynn McKee of FT South Street was notified by the War Department that his son T 5 Lynun A McKee of the 82nd Airborne Signal Co. was slightly injured in action on June 6 while serving in France. Word subsequently received that he is confined to a hospital with cuts and bruises but expects to rejoin his outfit in France soon.

Miss Betty Lee Rickie Hurt In Factory Accident

Miss Rickie aged 116 daughter of Mr and Mrs Lee Rickle of 7 miles southwest of Carey suffered a severe hand injury Friday noon at the Swan Swan Char Co plane shop. A roller caught her left hand while she fed material into a brake lining machine and the wrist required amputation. She was taken to Findlay hospital where Dr Koehler performed the operation and she will be confined for two or three weeks. Her father, employed at the Traction Pitcher plant in Findlay, was with her.

Missions Completed By Two Carey Boys

Lt William Spackey son of William Spackey of Carey and S/Sgt Rex Huston son of Vernon Huston of FE have completed the required aerial combat missions. Spackey has six assigned and Huston sixty one. Both are on Corsica with Spackey piloting a B 26 Mitchell bomber and Huston serving as a wing bombardier. They are on non combat duty and unlikely to return home soon. Huston has had two rest periods, first in Cairo and now in Italy.

Perkins Return After Notre Dame Assignment

Dr and Mrs H C Perkins return to Peoria after visiting Dr Perkins mother Myrtle Perkins. Mrs Perkins stayed with her Erie Pa relatives while Dr Perkins receives a year leave from Bradley Polytechnic Institute to teach American history at Notre Dame University.
