The Carey Kiwanis met at noon in the New Galt Hotel dining room with strong attendance despite heat. They discussed painting Kiwanis signs to be placed on mail highways before the Fourth of July and reports on band fund solicitations showing loyal local support for summer concerts and community promotion.
Police rounded up two white men and a colored woman after a fire started in the tramp room when a cigarette lit bunk caught. The men were removed to safety, the woman to jail, then sent out of town and escorted to Hancock county line where she later disappeared.

The Philathea class of Memorial Evangelical Sunday school will meet Tuesday evening of next week July 4 at the home of Mrs. Alonzo Green north of town. Mrs. Joe Essex and Mrs. Clarence Diedrick will assist as hostesses.

Joseph Shane a retired farmer and the last Civil War veteran in Carey died Saturday at his S Vance street home from bronchial pneumonia. Military funeral honors were given at his home with Spanish American War veterans and Earl Green Post American Legion in attendance. Interment followed in Wharton cemetery. Shane served in Co D 144th OVI and lived in the Carey area most of his life.
The family expresses gratitude to neighbors friends ex soldiers flower senders those who provided cars Reverend Shock and Undertakers Bristoll and Kear for their consoling words and services during this difficult time.
Mr and Mrs Ralph Gilbert Spencer Jr announce the engagement of their daughter Jane to Edward Lewis Spetnagel of New York City, son of Mr and Mrs Edward L Spetnagel of Chillicothe. The wedding is planned for early fall.
A dry cleaning shop in a neighboring town asks about a bus schedule they bought via a stranger who allegedly sold them an ad and borrowed their cut. The Carey Times has no record of the schedule or the cut and laments potential fraud.
Dr. L. W. Naus health commissioner announces a pre-school conference at Carey on June 29 from 8 to 11 and 1 to 4. Parents of children starting school this fall are urged to attend to have their youngsters examined free of charge.
The American Legion Auxiliary announces there will be no meetings during July and August. Members are advised to resume later in the year.

Due to the July 4 holiday there will be no meeting of Justus Lodge Knights of Pythias next Tuesday. Officers newly elected will be installed at the July 11 meeting. All officers elect should be present and members urged to attend the ceremony.
Last Sunday two C. and O. passenger trains were discontinued. No. 34 southbound through Carey at 8 30 p m and No. 33 northbound at 10 50 a m. This leaves two passenger mail trains each way daily.

The village ordinance prohibits lighting fireworks or explosives in Carey except on the Fourth of July. Violators may be fined 1 to 25 dollars. Mayor S. H. Krebs signs the notice.
Scout leaders met Tuesday to discuss the outdoor program and present training certificates to 13 men including Charles Calmes T D Romig Richard Frederick Earl Briggs Charles Long Karl Bame John Greer Walter Greer John Myers Jr C H Baker Dean Baker and Fr Wekesians. The session covered summer camping plans at the Marion Scout reservation and health and safety rules. Troops 22 and 29 are slated for Camp Owens this summer.
The Sunday evening and mid week services are suspended for summer. The Lutheran Boys Camp at Marblehead runs July 9 to 22 with two boys paid by Brotherhood class at half fee. Total camp cost is 14 dollars for two weeks for ages 11 to 17. Reports go to Denver Hart or E S Burson. Charles Long, previously top camper, joins camp staff. Lakeside Summer School runs July 17 to 23 with plans for a local group participation.
APPOINTED REGISTRAR Jesse Sell from the Secretary of State's office was in town Friday and checked out W. Z. Campbell as local deputy registrar of motor vehicles and turned the business over to Elza Jacobs, recently appointed by George S. Myers, democratic secretary of state. Mr. Campbell has been the efficient registrar for this locality for the past three years, the business of the office having steadily increased during his tenure. Mr. Jacobs will issue licenses at his place of business on E. South street.
R F Wright, manager of Carey Greenhouses, visited Cleveland Friday and Saturday to enroll in a Florist's Telegraph School at the Hotel Hollenden. The event limited admission to florists and focused on funeral work church decoration for weddings floral bridge prizes and gifts for the new arrival. The school was largely attended.

The Pythian Sisters announce a regular meeting at 8 o'clock Thursday evening, the last gathering until September. All members are urged to attend as a surprise has been arranged for the occasion.

The community mourns the sudden death of Annetta Mae McCreary Yohe at her N Vance Street home from cardiac palsy following years of illness. Funeral services were held at Christ Lutheran Church with Rev Paul R Clouser officiating. Burial at Spring Grove Cemetery followed. She leaves a large family including husband Jacob Lloyd Yohe and eight children, plus relatives and many friends.

A 7 pound daughter was born Saturday to Mr and Mrs George Pahl of Tiffin. They named her Susanne. Mr Pahl is a nephew of John Pahl Wm Pahl and H L Pahl of this place.
Saturday A C Kitzler underwent a serious operation at the Home and Hospital in Findlay. Dr J M Firmin of Findlay led the procedure assisted by Dr J D Siddall of Carey.
