The Carey Kiwanis met at noon in the New Galt Hotel dining room with strong attendance despite heat. They discussed painting Kiwanis signs to be placed on mail highways before the Fourth of July and reports on band fund solicitations showing loyal local support for summer concerts and community promotion.

Fire at tramp room near C and O tracks reported

Police rounded up two white men and a colored woman after a fire started in the tramp room when a cigarette lit bunk caught. The men were removed to safety, the woman to jail, then sent out of town and escorted to Hancock county line where she later disappeared.

Death of Carey Civil War veteran Joseph Shane noted

Joseph Shane a retired farmer and the last Civil War veteran in Carey died Saturday at his S Vance street home from bronchial pneumonia. Military funeral honors were given at his home with Spanish American War veterans and Earl Green Post American Legion in attendance. Interment followed in Wharton cemetery. Shane served in Co D 144th OVI and lived in the Carey area most of his life.

Knights of Pythias Lodge Postpones July Meeting

Last Sunday two C. and O. passenger trains were discontinued. No. 34 southbound through Carey at 8 30 p m and No. 33 northbound at 10 50 a m. This leaves two passenger mail trains each way daily.

County Flower Mission Day Set by WCTU

The county WCTU schedules Flower Mission Day at the county home Sunday afternoon at 2:30. Junior Sunday school departments join a union choir, with all area boys and girls invited to meet at the Lutheran church Thursday afternoon at 2:30 for practice. Scout Round Table Meeting in Carey District

Scout leaders met Tuesday to discuss the outdoor program and present training certificates to 13 men including Charles Calmes T D Romig Richard Frederick Earl Briggs Charles Long Karl Bame John Greer Walter Greer John Myers Jr C H Baker Dean Baker and Fr Wekesians. Lutheran Church notes on summer services and camp plans

The Sunday evening and mid week services are suspended for summer. The Lutheran Boys Camp at Marblehead runs July 9 to 22 with two boys paid by Brotherhood class at half fee. Total camp cost is 14 dollars for two weeks for ages 11 to 17. Reports go to Denver Hart or E S Burson. Charles Long, previously top camper, joins camp staff. Lakeside Summer School runs July 17 to 23 with plans for a local group participation.

Appointed Registrar Turns Over DMV Duties to Elza Jacobs

APPOINTED REGISTRAR Jesse Sell from the Secretary of State's office was in town Friday and checked out W. Z. Campbell as local deputy registrar of motor vehicles and turned the business over to Elza Jacobs, recently appointed by George S. Myers, democratic secretary of state. Mr. Campbell has been the efficient registrar for this locality for the past three years, the business of the office having steadily increased during his tenure. Mr. Jacobs will issue licenses at his place of business on E. South street.

Florist School Attended by Carey Greenhouses Manager

R F Wright, manager of Carey Greenhouses, visited Cleveland Friday and Saturday to enroll in a Florist's Telegraph School at the Hotel Hollenden. The event limited admission to florists and focused on funeral work church decoration for weddings floral bridge prizes and gifts for the new arrival. The school was largely attended.

Death of Mrs J L Yohe at Home on N Vance Street
