Death of Mrs Clarence Shifferly After Car Crash

Local relatives were informed Wednesday forenoon of the death of Mrs Clarence Shifferly of Mindlay at 3:00 AM following an automobile accident on Main Cross Street. She was 27 and formerly Doris Stillberger daughter of William Stillberger. Funeral Friday at 2 PM from Central Church of Christ with Rev Henry H Carter officiating. burial in Maple Grove cemetery.

Serious Accident Near Town Injures Haferd Boy

Franklin Haferd five-year-old son of Ralph Haferd of the southeast of town, met a serious accident while bird nest hunting in a field where his father was cutting hay. He stepped into a mower knife, cutting his right leg above the ankle. He was rushed to Dr. B A Maloney in Upper Sandusky for X rays and surgery to sew the bone lining before closing the wound.

Made clean sweep as thieves steal 84 chicken pullets

A Friday night theft targets 84 White Leghorn pullets culled by Mrs. Clyde Wentling near the Col. Crawford monument in Crawford. Thieves steal pallet birds, fountains, feeders, and feed from the pen where the pullets hatched in mid April were ready for market.

Howard C. Perkins to Receive Degree from Yale

Howard C. Perkins of Toledo will receive the doctor of philosophy degree from Yale on June 21 for his thesis Northern Press Approach on the Civil War. His work led to a Beveridge foundation commission to edit a volume on northern newspapers’ Civil War attitudes. He taught at the University of Pittsburgh for three years and authored a widely used high school history manual. Perkins studied at the University of Toledo and is son of Mrs Myrtle Perkins of N Vance Street.

Paul Zeis of Akron and Ella M. Scott tie for highest scholarship among 180 Akron University graduates. They share the Alumni's $50 prize while Zeis earns a Princeton scholarship covering tuition for a year and a department assistant salary. Relief Marchers Move On From Lucas County To Columbus

About 85 relief marchers en route to petition state officials for more aid spent Tuesday night at Carey park. They marched through town at six in the evening singing and chanting. A few panhandled despite police orders while merchants donated bread. Nine women were in the crowd along with some young boys. one was described as colored. They left Wednesday to rest at a filling station and then camped in Riester woods east of Route 23. Upper Sandusky officials reportedly denied them shelter for the night. They are scheduled to reach Columbus on Sunday.

The Lutheran church observes Children’s Day this Sunday with Sunday school at 9 30 a m and the morning service at 10 a m featuring a children’s program led by the junior choir. Town closes for Ranger Girls game on Tuesday
