Carey’s team opened the season at home and defeated the colored Independents from Fostoria 8 to 1 on the rubber plant diamond. Bradley pitched strongly with eleven strikeouts as Orlans Greer and Donelson contributed multiple hits and solid defense.
Next Sunday afternoon the Carey team will cross bats with the Findlay American Legion at the Rubber Plant diamond. Admission 35 cents, ladies free. A good game of ball is promised with both sides seeking a win.
The Bruce Threshing Ring met Friday at C. G. Kimmel's home in Salem township electing Wilfrid Logdson president Leo Bradman treasurer and H. L. Myers secretary. They estimate only half the wheat acreage sown will be harvested as the rest was resown to oats. The crop looks good and last week's weather aided growth though April and May dew absence slowed it. Hay likely to be light due to a white weed appearing periodically but quality should exceed last year.
C Steinmetz enjoys four weeks vacation earned last winter for leading freight business gains among Northern Ohio agents. He and family returned from Milwaukee and Chicago and plan to visit relatives in Louisville Ky and other southern points. W H Noble of New London fills in during absence.
Reverend Dominic Taviani general of the Franciscans and Very Rev Aloys Bondini advisor to the general, both from Rome, Italy, arrived Tuesday morning to stay a few days at Our Lady of Consolation rectory as the general tours the country visiting Franciscan stations.

Sisters M. Anna, M. Fideli and M Alphonsa, teachers at the local parochial school, have been in Cleveland since Monday attending a teachers convention.
The Luther League will hold a patriotic service on the church lawn this Sunday at 6 30 PM inviting all members of the public to attend.
The Carey Electric Telephone Co. asks customers to place orders now as new directories are being printed.
Carey Board of Public Affairs approves metered water rates to cover depreciation and operation costs. An engineer valued the plant at 101 804 dollars, with 112 million gallons pumped yearly and only 63.4 percent revenue producing. The plan aims for self sufficiency without new taxes, charging 24 cents per thousand gallons for the first 12 million, 20 cents for the next 7 million, and 14 cents thereafter per quarter with a $6 annual minimum.
Miss Ethel Riter daughter of Mr and Mrs J F Riter of Lima died Tuesday morning at Lima Hospital after an operation for obstruction of the bowels. She had been in delicate health. Several relatives from Lima and Wharton will attend the funeral today.
Initiated into the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary Monday evening were Mrs L M Remlinger Mrs Ed ward McLaughlin Mrs J T Stom baugh Mrs H L Pahl and Miss Celestine Werling A committee led by Mrs W H Snyder Mrs C F Pflueger Mrs D J Humbert and Mrs Grover Snyder served refreshments.
The state horse shoe pitchers tournament will be held at Mansfield beginning the afternoon of July 9 and continuing until contests are settled. Entry blanks may be obtained by calling at this office.
Frank Damon of this city has left to take over as manager of Kroger Grocery Co. store recently opened in Kenton. The Kroger chain now operates its 1700th store.
Services at the Crawford Methodist Church are scheduled for Sunday at 10 30 a m with preaching and worship. Members are invited to attend, and the event is open to the public.
Last Thursday and Friday J S Fox of the south of town raised a new barn with many helpers listed by name. Women assisted Mrs Fox serving dinner and children present included Clarence Margaret Dorothy Collet Vincent Fox Paul Francis Seebon Joseph and Edward Fox.
Oak Grove Church of the Brethren hosts a July 4 homecoming with an all day program. Rev Fred Fair of Fostoria preaches at 10 30 a m a basket dinner at noon and Prof J H Dickason to lecture at 2 00 p m and 8 00 p m. Oak Grove and Green Springs play baseball in the afternoon. Public invited.
Miss Audrey Cham bers, just graduated from Ypsilanti and holder of a life teaching certificate in dramatics and speech, along with Miss Mable Cham bers an instructor in physical training in Detroit schools, depart Monday for Chautauqua N Y to engage in boys and girls club work for the season.
Wilbur L. Smothers and Mrs. Lucy A. Bingle of Carey wed at Rev. EB H Douglass home on West Wyandot Avenue Tuesday at 4 PM. They will reside in Carey where Smothers works at the National Lime and Stone plant.
Fred Lasere son in law of Mrs Samuel McBeth is constructing a new house in the Ardmore addition. He and Mrs Lasere are trapese per formers and will make Carey their home while not busy with their profession. Mr and Mrs Lasere do most of the carpenter work themselves.
Rev Harold Wonder has accepted a unanimous call to serve as pastor of the Presbyterian church in Hillsdale Michigan with a 400-member field and fine plant. He and Mrs Wonder will begin duties July 1.
Paragon Oil Co has leased Er nest Dunn's West Findlay street lot near the A C Y for 10 years and plans a filling station.

Walker was re elected district president and Ash district secretary of missionary education.
A son arrived Tuesday morning to Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Orians, south of town. An 8 pound son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Cletis Courtad, north of town, on Wednesday afternoon. A 7 pound daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Ray Tracey on Sunday, named Shirley Eileen.
A park pot luck closing the second pest campaign drew about 500 attendees. The east side claimed the victory with a successful communal meal and event at the park.
John Fox purchases Ed Riester's eight acre farm two miles east of town for a total of 10000 dollars.
