The church committee named Clyde Jenkins as scoutmaster. Tonight at 8 in the church basement a meeting for all Scout age boys and parents will include Karl Bechtle, field Scout executive, to present Scout pictures and plan forming a new troop to use the summer months for outdoor activities.
J A Haines writes to Carey Ohio residents explaining a petition against a total parking ban on Findlay Street between A and West streets. He says the aim was to protest parking prohibition, not oppose widening the street for full improvement and greater civic benefit.
The Wyandot county fairgrounds host the ANNUALY FARM BUREAU PICNIC on June 29 at 12 30 p m. Basket dinner served in the dining hall at 12 30 prompt. Coffee and soft drinks furnished. Games and contests planned with a youth group versus a Farm Bureau team softball game.
F K Cassel of Carey Wyandot county representative to the Ohio General Assembly spoke to the Carey Lions Club last Thursday at 6 30 in Trubey's restaurant. He explained the procedure to introduce and pass a bill in the Ohio House of Representatives.
An 8 pound 11 ounce son born June 19 at 11 40 pm at University Hospital Columbus to Mr and Mrs Louis Orians. The baby named Ray Louis is the first grandson of Mrs R M Orians southwest of Carey.
Returned Mrs Elbert Tewell arrived at her home on S Lake Street from Findlay hospital where she had a major operation last Tuesday. The journey was made in Goffs ambulance.
The J. T. club will meet this Thursday afternoon with Mrs. A. J. Kinney, northeast of Carey, inviting members to attend.
The Evangelical United Brethren Camp Meeting sponsored by the Findlay Group opens Thursday night with daily weeknight services at 7345 and Sunday services at 7 30. An opening ring service lasts 30 minutes each evening and afternoon sessions are planned Tuesday to Thursday at 2 30. Evangelist Rev E J Haldeman of Edison and song leader Rev O C Turner of Wilmore Ky head the program. The public is invited.
Moose members in good standing are invited to a June 26 picnic at Bro P J Pahl's farm with lunch and refreshments. Admission requires presenting a receipt at the grounds and no lodge meeting will be held that night.
Joyce Myers won second prize in lower grades at the state poster contest announced by the county extension office in Upper Sandusky. Jesse R Bland and Willard Boyce earned honorable mention in the upper grades and high school division for posters designed last March.
Tiffin Deanery National Council of Catholic Women met Wednesday afternoon June 18 at the K of C hall in Tiffin with over 100 district members present. Rev Fr Benedict of Carey spoke after the business session and refreshments were served. Carey attendees included Mrs J A Vaughn Mrs Margaret Yost Mrs H D Derr Mrs R M Orians Mrs Minnie Ruffing and Mrs Clarence Bichert.
Mr and Mrs C A Walter and others from Ridge and Crawford townships attended the trustees and clerks meeting of Ohio held at Cedar Point during the past weekend. The group included John Fox Charles Nachbar Earl Hunter and grandson Robert Richards among attendees from Salem township.
Round and square dancing at Fagles hall Saturday night with music by W J Williamson's orchestra of Fostoria Co. W Laudenstrager, secretary.
The Catholic Knights of Ohio will assemble this Thursday evening June 26 at the home of Frank Miller west of Carey.
Hard Green Post No 344 American Legion will hold its regular meeting Tuesday at 8 30 pm to elect officers Those from Carey who attended Boys State at Delaware will attend the session.
Carey split a doubleheader with Marseilles, securing a 3 hit shutout in the first game behind Lab’s pitching and a 2 hit win by Nash in the second. Puck Myers with a grand slam powered Carey in the opener, while Chuck Heck and Dick Lab contributed strong fielding and timely hits. Carey will host Vanlue Friday at 6 on Swan Field with Gene Newell expected to start. an open date remains for Sunday.
Miss Arlene Rickle, daughter of Mr and Mrs Girard C Rickle of southwest of Carey, completed a 17 day tour with Bluffton College Vesper Choir. The a cappella group of 650 voices directed by Prof Russell A Lantz performed sacred concerts in Mennonite churches across Illinois Missouri Kansas Nebraska South Dakota Minnesota and Iowa. She then returned home Friday to summer with her parents in Bluffton.
Mrs C Harshberger broke her right arm Wednesday afternoon when she fell at the home of her brother in law and sister Mr and Mrs Robert Smalley southeast of Upper Sandusky. The accident happened when her ankle turned and she fell. Mrs Miriam Purnell is helping care for her.
The Girl Scout court of awards scheduled for this Thursday evening in the Catholic hall has been postponed to a later date.
Carey lodge No. 420 Free and Accepted Masons will meet Friday evening at 7 30. Members are urged to be present. Grover Snyder serves as Worshipful Master.
Scouts from Harding area civic groups will visit Camp Owens south of Marion as the camp opens June 23 for the 1947 season. Pioneer period runs to July 2, followed by three weeks of troop camping July 6 to July 26 with troops listed from Marion, Bucyrus, Cardington, Carey, Kenton, Upper Sandusky, and others.
Charles Merkle of Adrian spotted a broken rail on New York Central tracks and alerted Carey station. A following freight train was inspected and the defective car removed, likely averting a major wreck. Merkle had previously found a broken wall sound and alerted officials to fix the rail.
Mr and Mrs Ralph Savidge and family left June 15 for Arlington Virginia after visiting relatives and friends on a motor trip through the West. They stayed six weeks with Mrs Savidge s parents in Almabra California and were guests of Mr Savidge s parents near Carey.
The Carey Farmers Community club will hold its June meeting Monday evening June 23 at the K of C hall. In charge of the program are T D Romig W J Krupp and Arthur Wisner. The refreshment committee includes Fred Powell Orville Cook and Grover Wagner.
Miss Helen Brooks of Detroit graduated June 14 from the University of Michigan School of Public Health with a BS in Public Health. A former Wyandot County health nurse, she is now on a trip through the West.
Robert Riedlinger 1 year old son of Mr and Mrs Raymond Riedlinger west of Carey was injured on a rotary hoe when he fell off and the heel of his shoe caught in a sprocket. Both bones of his right leg were broken above the ankle and an operation to set the bones was performed Tuesday night. He is progressing well at Findlay hospital.
In an 11 inning pitchers duel Carey Moose defeated Findlay 1 0 to start the season. Henry Fredritz earned the win with a 11th inning RBI as Carey out hit Findlay 8 to 6 led by Orians Keckler and Strahm with two hits each. Findlay’s top hitters were Baldwin and Dixon with two apiece. Carey postponed games with Mansfield and Bucyrus and released the first half schedule listing dates and venues.
Members of the Luther League and Christ Lutheran Church will leave next Monday for Lakeside to attend the 26th annual Lutheran Synod of Ohio summer school. About 1600 Lutherans of all ages are expected, one of the largest Lakeside programs of its kind. R M Lonsway and Rene Dubois form a partnership selling farm bureau insurance including life fire auto and liability. Office at 213 Clay Street. Lonsway has 12 years of experience. Dubois is a World War II veteran who served three and a half years in the Pacific.
The 37th annual Robison family reunion will be held Sunday July 13 at Harrison Smith Park in Upper Sandusky. Association officers include President C E Robison, Vice President O O Corbin, Treasurer Dale C Robison, and Secretary Donna L Wonder.
The WBA will meet Friday evening at 8 30 in the Moose hall. A pot luck dinner will be served to honor members with birthdays and anniversaries this month. All members are urged to attend.
Rumors that the building or Cy's Super Market has been sold are false. If the building or business is ever sold, the public will be notified in the usual manner.
Mr and Mrs George Jaster are building a modern house on their Elm Hills lot. The planned five room two story residence includes a bath and a garage as part of the new construction.
Two memorial services at Christ Lutheran Church Carey will honor three WWII service members. At 9 30 a m the church school altars in the beginner primary and junior departments will be dedicated to Lt John F Byers Gerald F Pahl and Capt William G Spackey Jr. The 10 30 a m worship service will mark the dismantling of the Honor Roll flag with Don ald Keller and Claire McKee presenting the service men and women. Public is invited.
Darwin Cole aged 12 left Carey at 7 30 in the morning with no money or breakfast and walked to Fostoria about 15 miles away. He was given rides by farmers but continued walking and returned home at 8 40 that evening very hungry. He had learned much about the road between Carey and Fostoria.
Women of the Wyandot County WCTU gathered at Mrs B C Harman’s Upper Sandusky home for a county meeting and potluck. Felts of Delaware, state organizer, reported on the world convention held June 5 to 10 in Asbury Park New Jersey. Offenbacher, scientific temperance instruction director, updated on county school efforts and McCabe discussed early Union organization work.
William Peirce Sr proprietor of the Peirce Dairy southwest of Carey announces a new dairy building measuring 54 by 22 feet and will install modern equipment. The project aims to boost production and efficiency at the family operation.
The Dorcas Bible class of the Methodist Sunday school will meet Friday evening June 27 with Mrs. John Halloran on W Findlay Street.
