Live tenure seen for half of Ohio teachers
Walton B. Bliss of the Ohio Education Association estimated that about half of Ohio's teachers will receive continuing or unlimited contracts under the new tenure law. He argued dismissal standards must be safeguarded and that life leases are not guaranteed. The act covers schools with over 800 pupils and requires a life teaching certificate for eligibility. September 1 is the proposed effective date, questioned by State Education Director Dietrich.
