Wyandot County Draft Call Fills 21st Round

Wyandot county’s 21st draft call was filled by eight men including Orville Cole John Dow and Grover Walborn Jr Ca vey Richard Cole Wharton Karl Strasser and Charles Kouns with Dean Shaffer as alternate Three men will answer the next call to be filled Friday July 11 They include Thomas Leonard Richard Lynn McKee and Kenneth Ekleberry George Richardson named alternate Seventeen conscriptees left Upper Sandusky for Fort Hayes Columbus last Friday The 20th call brought the Chesapeake & Ohio line many passengers and some mishaps at departure Nine deserters and a parade welcome marked the farewell to Rathne and band members at Bon Ton restaurant

Rebekahs Hold Special Session at Carey High School

About 125 Rebekahs from Ada Wharton Findlay Kenton Dunkirk Forest and Van Wert attended a district school of instruction in Carey high school auditorium led by Gladys Foster and Anna Henderson. Fifteen Arlington members were delayed by a fatal auto train collision en route.

Operating Room Duty for Duane Kromer at Naval Hospital Philadelphia

Duane Kromer, son of Mr and Mrs Paul Kromer of Carey, begins duty in the main operating room at the US Naval Hospital in Philadelphia after six months in training. He previously worked in a cardiac ward and, upon completion, will become a registered operating room technician. He graduated from medical school in April at Portsmouth Virginia with 119 students in his class. Last Friday he transported two patients from Philadelphia to the Veteran's Home and Hospital in Bath New York for an indefinite period, then spent the weekend sightseeing before returning home.

Tragic Onset of Litton Birthday Death Near Carey

John C. Litton 19 of Carey was found fatally injured beside a westbound C O freight near the Swan Rubber plant. Coroner ruled accidental death on Litton's 19th birthday. He had been seen around 1:00 am after leaving home at 120 High Street. Burial in Whitehouse Kentucky followed after services in Paintsville. He leaves siblings in Kentucky and Carey. There were no witnesses to the tragedy.

Howard Beck, 2½, was knocked down by a neighbor’s dog near the Wurtsbaugh home in Rich Monday forenoon. The dog cut a gash on his cheek and penetrated his neck near the jugular. Dr Wurtsbaugh rescued him. shots for lockjaw were given and the dog is confined to test rabies danger.
