Bloodmobile visit nets 99 pints at First Methodist Church

The Cleveland Red Cross bloodmobile made its sixth visit to the First Methodist Church in Carey last Wednesday. Ninety nine pints were collected with 14 rejects and 42 no-shows or cancellations causing confusion. Volunteers and staff included 10 unscheduled helpers, Mrs. Ruby Criger as general chairman, and many nurses, canteen staff, and coordinators. Eight donors gave blood on all six visits, while 22 provided on five of six, though some were rejected for colds or urgent commitments.

Pace Wins $1000 Prize for Lens Name Normalsite

Dr Loren L Pace of Petersburg Virginia is told by Titmus Optical Co that he has won $1000 in a lens naming contest. His chosen name Normalsite will earn him an all expense paid trip to Petersburg to collect the award and tour the factory.

Mendon selects William N Heath as industrial arts instructor

Garey board of education announces the hiring of William N Heath of Mendon as industrial arts instructor and assistant coach replacing Don Wilson who resigned to work for Swan Rubber Co. Heath is an Ohio State graduate, studies at USC this session, previously taught in Venedocia and served four years in the Navy. He is married with two children and plans to move to Carey soon.

Multi-vehicle crash on Route 23 near Carey injures five

At about 4 p.m. Tuesday a six vehicle crash on Route 23 near Scheck's Market involved Nial Ryder and Pauline Wickiser among others. Injuries were minor for Ryder and Wickiser. Underhill injured with facial wounds. Cummins, Rice, and others had heavy damage. Sheriff McAllister investigated. Ryder treated. Underhill’s mother taken to Wyandot Memorial Hospital and released.

Village council passes ordinances to reassign street official

The village council at a regular meeting passed two ordinances changing the Street Commissioner role to Superintendent of Water Streets and Sewers and charging the salary to three departments Water Streets and Sewers. Ordinance No 469 abolishes the post and No 470 creates the new title with emergency passage. The action follows a state audit approval and includes detailed fund reports. The council also debated utility extension costs and approved building permits and a Jaycees concession at Waterworks Park for the August pilgrimage.

Army Adopts New Enlistment Plan in 3rd Division

Garey Woman Becomes Citizen

Mrs Dale R Nye of N Lake Street formerly of Vienna Austria was among 84 foreign born residents naturalized in Toledo. Nye and her husband met in Vienna while he served with the Army. they married in June 1951. Mrs Nye had lived in the United States for three and a half years and filed for citizenship last December.

Carey School Board Hires Five New Teachers

The Carey school board on June 14 filled vacancies with five men and two women. William Heath replaces Don Wilson as a teacher in Carey. Joyce Bowman joins as girls physical education instructor. Jane Schwemley becomes vocal music teacher. Peter Farming takes roles as head basketball coach and 6th grade teacher. Charles Hall becomes West building principal. Additional hires include Mrs. Victor Dunh as first grade teacher and John E. Donaldson as football and assistant basketball coach. Supt. Blake notes staff is complete unless further resignations or need for an extra fourth grade teacher arises.

Shuffleboard Club Begins Tourneys

Elsie Long and Mary Shiley won the Carey Shuffleboard Club's tourney Friday night, the first of the season. Consolation went to Mary Piers and Joe Silverstern. Tuesday's tourney saw Mrs. Long and A. John Windau Named Purchasing Agent for Porcelain Products

John Windau son of Mr and Mrs August Windau of Cleveland Avenue has been employed as purchasing agent for Porcelain Products Inc. Low Voltage Division located in Carey and is working in the Findlay office. John recently completed his military service. Wrecking Begins on Abandoned Coal Dock by Central Crew

New York Central crew has worked for a week to dismantle the abandoned coal dock south of town. Dismantling is to finish by Wednesday, ground clearing to follow by Saturday morning, per Agent L E Offenbacher. The dock was no longer needed since diesel locomotives were introduced.
