Carey Exempted Village Board Hires Three New Teachers

The board employed three teachers for Crawford school with two replacing resignations and one to lead a new first grade. Miss Phyllis Clayton will teach home economics, Mrs Esther Cook Jeathers English, and Miss Mary Lotiage Rich first grade. Clayton and Rich are Bluffton College graduates. Leathers leads Wood County Teachers Association and will attend the National Education convention in Miami in late June.

California visitors plan three month stay

Mrs Clyde W Rose Jr and her daughter Virginia arrived from Richmond California to visit her parents Mr and Mrs Olle Marshall northwest of Carey They traveled by plane to Toledo and will stay about three months.

Miss Mary Steinmetz entered Blanchard Valley Hospital last Thursday and underwent serious surgery Friday morning. She is getting along as well as can be expected.

Soldier Completes Basic Training at Fort Knox

Pvt. John L. Wedge aged 19 son of Mrs. Roy W. Shawver of Carey Ohio completed Army Branch Immaterial Basic Training with the 3rd Armored Division at Fort Knox Kentucky. The 8 week course covered basic military subjects and infantry fundamentals including basic weapon firing. He enlisted March 16 1953.

Shuffleboard Club News Recaps June Tournaments

The Shuffleboard Club reports the Tuesday June 9 event was won by Paul Heck and Denver Donelson with Mary Pieracini and Arch Donelson as consolation winners. A Friday red and black match saw Heck and Donelson's team prevail by a narrow margin. Next week partners will be chosen by invitation. The June 24 Ladies Day begins at 10:30 am with a sack lunch at noon before continuing play.

Injured Worker C G Laird Confined At Home

C G Laird 128 S Patterson Street is confined to bed after injuries from an accident Monday about 1 a m at the National Lime and Stone Co dolomite plant. He was caught between a steel car and the mill wall. X rays showed fractures of the ring and a spinal injury. He remained in Blanchard Valley Hospital until late Tuesday afternoon before being brought home by his wife.

Carey Baseball Beats Luckey in Opener Then Drops Two

The Baughman Motor Sales team won 12 to 5 against Luckey but then fell to Metcalf Motors 9 to 7 and Chillicothe Federal Reform 12 to 8.
