Roundhouse Fire Causes Major NY Central Loss

Sunday fire of undetermined origin destroyed and damaged the New York Central roundhouse and contents with an official estimate near $65,000. Two locomotives were inside. one likely a total loss, the other repairable though cab damage was extensive. Fire alarm came from Victor Dunn at 4 30 a m Route 699. Crews battled the blaze for hours as roof sections fought the flames. No workers were present after 6 p m Saturday. Spontaneous combustion considered unproved. A grass fire at Ernest Dunn’s barn was reported Tuesday noon.

Tennis Growing Fast at Memorial Park Court

Memorial Park sees rising tennis interest under Mearl Atkins. Regulars include Tom Temple C A Yeoman W W Clark H K Van Buren and Theodore E Ridley playing 7 to 9 pm. War Continues On Mosquitoes In Carey

The JayCees mosquito control program resumes next week with Campnell Pest Control Services from Lima to fog Carey for a second time. Residents reported fewer pests after the June 10 fogging and the crew plans further work on a calm, dry night. Shuffleboard Club News: Reds Win Friday Tournament

The Reds, chosen by A. E. Donelson, defeated Mrs. Clint Kear's Blacks to win Friday evening's shuffleboard tournament. In Tuesday's invitational, Pearl Donelson and Charles Inbody beat H. B. Turnbell and Lloyd Long. Consolation prizes went to Mrs. H. B. Turnbell and Mrs. G. C. Wagner.

Carey Teams Rally as Ball Players Boost Crawford Memorial

Carey business leaders donated 491.50 toward the Crawford Memorial Park. The Baughman Motor Sales squad beat Toledo YMCA 56 to 16 with Burks pitching a two hit game and Barth hitting two homers. Columbus defeated Luckey 8 to 0 in a scheduling mismatch while Carey prepares to host Maumee and Liberty. Labor Day dedication for the Col William Crawford memorial is planned if funds reach 2000.

Pvt Clarence Coffman reports for a new assignment at Fort Sam Houston Texas after a 110 day delay from Camp Pickett Virginia. Circus To Show In Carey Tuesday Under Local Sponsorship

The Kelly-Morris Circus will perform in Carey Memorial Park on Tuesday June 30 with matinee at 2 30 and night show at 8 00. Sponsored by the Carey Businessmen Association the event features Capt Eddie Kuhn lions tigers and other acts and the association receives a share of ticket sales to fund park improvements. Master James Allen Brown five year old son of Mr and Mrs Vincent J Brown of southwest of Carey entered Wyandot Memorial Hospital Tuesday morning June 16 and underwent surgery for removal of his tonsils and adenoids His parents brought him home Tuesday evening.

Gerald Kaufman Seriously Injured in Farm Accident

Gerald Kaufman of the Silverstein farm near Carey was severely injured at about 10 15 am Monday while mowing hay. He jumped off to chase newborn pheasants from the mower lever and punctured his left leg above the knee. He applied a tourniquet, drove home, received first aid from neighbor Edward Albus, and was treated at a local physician's office where the wound was sewn. His condition is reported as satisfactory.

Mrs. Anna Lantz, under observation at Blanchard Valley Hospital from last Wednesday to Tuesday, is improving nicely after receiving three blood transfusions. She is now staying with her daughter Mrs. W. Bunting in Findlay for a few days.
