Business leaders in Carey report a substantial rise in retail trade over recent months with new and used car sales up sharply. Since January dealers say business is the best since 1929 and May 1936 shows a 20 to 25 percent gain over May 1935. Profits remain lower than 1928 and 1929, but sales volume rivals those years thanks to modern, high-volume low-margin strategies. Election years typically slow, yet Carey’s first half shows strength.

$55 000 In Bonus Bonds Arrive In Carey
Approximately $55 000 in soldiers bonus bonds arrived by the post office in Carey on Monday for ex service men. Of about 8 99 applications totaling nearly 357 000 dollars 94 were received and distributed Monday. By Tuesday noon 24 had signed bonds to be sent to Cleveland for redemption from the federal reserve. Each soldier’s share in Carey should average about 580 dollars shaping over 13000 for local ex servicemen this week.

Carey Observes Pi Safety Week With Large Turnout
Carey marked the close of a highly successful Safety Week observed June 7 to 13. The Carey Safety Committee drew from Kiwanis and Earl Green Post to oversee events. About 2,000 cars were checked. 500 in local garages and 1,500 by police and state highway patrol. A Thursday mass meeting at the high school auditorium drew 300 attendees. Speakers included P. B. Martens and Captain H. P. Heyne of the Ohio Industrial Commission, with George French of Buckeye Union Casualty Insurance. The program featured band selections and safety films including Saving Seconds and Once Upon a Time.
