Local club luncheon features Carey schools chief Palmer

Supt Charles Palmer of the Carey schools visited the club during a Monday luncheon. He shared impressions of the city and its schools praising progress in scholarship and athletics and expressed willingness to join the club after his return from a summer course at Columbia University. Plans for a local July 4 celebration were discussed and merchants were urged to meet to finalize arrangements.

Methodist Church Children’s Day Pageant Evening

The Methodist Church presents Children’s Day exercises Sunday night in the Sunday school auditorium featuring the pageant The Enchanted Latchkey and other acts. The committee includes Mrs Bland Mrs Gunther and Mrs Wonder. Services begin with Sunday school at 9 15 a m divine worship at 10 30 with baptism of children offered.

Funeral attendance for John W. Orwick in Findlay

Mr and Mrs Orville Mull and daughter Lillian Mae Mrs Wm Gobrecht and Howard Gobrecht and family attended the funeral of John W Orwick in Findlay He died suddenly from injuries after falling from a tree His remains were taken to his old home for burial beside his first wife in Reunion cards printed by the Carey at Williamstown.

Pioneer Picnic Draws Large Crowd Under Sunny Skies

A 1926 Pioneer Picnic featured national entertainers and local figures, with strong attendance and a program led by Forest Hurd and J Q Halstead. Notables included Cyrus Huling, Mrs Martha Fletcher, and Congressman Brooks Fletcher, who spoke on vision and hope for the community.

Carey pastors 25th ordination anniversary observed

Friends in Carey and nearby churches honor Rev. B. Luther Spaid D D pastor of Calvary Evangelical Lutheran church Chicago with 25 years since ordination. Wagon Breaks Down Near Salem with 90 Bushels of Corn

John Bradman of Salem hauled 90 bushels of corn from H. A. Stoll when a wagon wheel broke Monday evening. In front of the Al Putnam home he sought help, finding Willis Tong and W. E. Walters. A wheel change failed as the new wheel was too large, before another wheel was borrowed at George Baughman’s home and Bradman resumed by 11:00 PM.

Suscu Arrested in Carey For Liquor Charge

Andrew Suscu was arrested in Carey by Sheriff Scheidegger Deputy Jonas and two Hocking Valley detectives on a charge of transporting and selling intoxicating liquor to negroes at a Hocking Valley construction camp near Carey. He pleaded guilty at a hearing before Mayor Franklin J. Stalter with sentence deferred to Saturday afternoon.

Herndon Visit Brings Hint of Carey Growth

John Herndon of Marseilles visited his brother J L Herndon in Carey on Thursday after more than 25 years away. Born and raised near Carey, he marveled at the town’s growth and changes in appearance. He planned to continue to Arlington to see another brother he had not seen in even longer time.

Foot Crush Injury In Water Gang Accident At Tiffin

C W Rowland of S Patterson street suffered a crushed foot while working with the Big Four water supply crew at Tiffin. He was pinched by moving cars while securing a crowbar and held for ten minutes before coworkers freed him. He was hospitalized with no broken bones.

Lightning Strikes Church Tower Damages Warehouse Use

During a heavy Monday rain a lightning bolt struck the old Methodist church tower and traveled to Rev. W F Martins radio aerial before grounding at the lightning arrestor. Shingles bricks and the switchboard cover were damaged. the church, used as a Carey Ohio porcelain plant warehouse, housed Raymond Beebe who was shocked inside.

North town family returns from Indianapolis after funeral of 17 year old

Mr and Mrs Jacob Kessler and daughter Victoria traveled from north of town to Indianapolis for the funeral of Miss Mary Elizabeth Wagner, the Kesslers’ daughter. The 17 year old died from heart trouble.
