Luther League of Ohio Holds 25th Anniversary in Lima

Twenty four members from Christ Lutheran Church Carey attended the Western Conference Luther League of the Synod Ohio twenty fifth anniversary convention in Lima. Over 250 Luther Leaguers from Western and Northwestern Ohio participated in sessions at St. Lucas Church and a banquet at Lima Memorial Auditorium with Rev Joseph W Frease of Philadelphia as speaker.

Kiwanis Club Notes on Carey School Program

Carey Kiwanis heard Supt. George A. Hartman and Rev. Wade H. Koons discuss the present day public school situation. Hartman outlined administrative aims and financial difficulties from recent state legislation while Koons highlighted spiritual roles and church support. Co. C. Thome announced next Monday's program for June 16 and urged strong attendance.

Flag Day Services Set At Upper Sandusky Elks

Judge William A. Hunt of Port Clinton will be principal speaker at the annual Flag Day services at the Upper Sandusky Elks home Friday evening June 13 at 8 o clock. The program is open to the public. Hunt, a former Iowa resident who moved to Port Clinton in 1939, is noted as a mystery figure in Ottawa County and is known for public speaking and fishing.

Summer Convention of Ohio Township Trustees and Clerks

The Ohio State Federation of Township Trustees and Clerks will hold its summer convention June 19 to 21 at Cedar Point on Lake Erie. A beach fire fighting demonstration is planned for Thursday afternoon. Speakers include Louis Bromfield of Richland County and Rev Bernard C Clausen of Cleveland.

Frederick Snobarger Returns From Caribbean Cruise

Frederick C. Snobarger, seaman second class in the US Navy, son of Mr and Mrs John Snobarger of Carey Ohio, serves aboard the aircraft carrier USS Philippine Sea which has returned to the United States after a shakedown in the Caribbean. The Philippine Sea was among 18 ships in the navy Antarctic expedition.

Charles Mericle Prevents Wreck Near Adrian

Charles Mericle of Adrian discovered an 18 inch piece of metal from a broken railroad car wheel while crossing New York Central tracks. He alerted Carey railroad officials and upon arrival of westbound train No 2555 with 66 cars, a broken wheel was found on an empty hopper car and removed. His alertness is credited with preventing a serious wreck and the New York Central Lines will thank him.

Frédritz No-Hits Tiffin in Carey Opener

Hermán Frédritz of the Carey Merchants pitched a no hitter in the opening league game against the Tiffin Nationals, one batter reached first on a hit by pitch. The 11 0 victory featured Mullholang’s clutch line drive catch and two hits from Heck Yingling and Logs. Carey meets Sandusky next in Tiffin Monday.

Jubilarian Priest Celebrates 25 Years in Priesthood

Rev Joseph P Brobst of St. Nicholas Church Frenchtown marked 25 years in the priesthood with a 10 a m mass. Born March 16 1897 in Havana Ohio he studied at St Sebastian and Pontifical College Josephinum Columbus. He served in Toledo and Tiffin before leading missions at Continental North Creek and Cuba and becoming pastor at Blakeslee.

Mary Martha class to meet Monday

Organizing a New Boy Scout Troop at Local Church

A Methodist Men’s Brotherhood group formed a committee at the church last Thursday to establish leadership, meeting place, and finances for a church Boy Scout troop. Karl Bechtle advised the committee, with Dr. Ford leading the session and naming officers including W. J. Heard as chairman and Donovan Lanning as secretary. A follow up meeting is set for June 19 to elect a Scout Master, with a June 26 “get acquainted” session inviting parents and boys.

Vaughn Family Visit to Georgia Memorial Day Trip

Mr and Mrs W H Vaughn and son Cecil motored to Marietta Georgia for Memorial Day services at Marietta Military Cemetery.
