Children’s Day Program at Memorial U B Church

A Children's Day program will be held Sunday evening at 8 o clock in Memorial Evangelical United Brethren Church. Kiwanis Club Notes on Insect and Weed Control

Co P Neldon of Sherwin Williams spoke on Insect and Weed Control using a 32 minute color and sound film. A question period followed with discussion of new pest treatment chemicals. Three guests attended Don Fetters Carl Heck and Clare QO Ewing. Ewing has been Rexall Drug research director and is Carey high and St Louis Mo native.

Checkers Tournament Held at McDaniel Motor Sales

Memorial Day event at McDaniel Motor Sales on W. North Street saw twenty visitors from across the state watch a ten game format. Gene Zuber of Wharton led with 17 points followed by Homer Dorsey of Findlay with 12 and V V Haugh of Bascom with 11. Dr W EE Diller of Rawson scored 8 while Cle-Hile of Carey and Perry Gray of Ft Jennings earned 6 and remaining points.

Havd Opens Furniture Store in Caledonia

Mr and Mrs Dwight Hotelling moved to Caledonia to operate a new furniture store with Robert Bennington of Fremont. Mrs Hotelling, formerly Geneva McLaughlin of Carey, and Mrs Bennington, formerly Arlene Strahm of this place, are involved. Bennington and the Hotellings were connected to Crestline nuptials in May.

Past Chiefs Association Meets This Afternoon

The Past Chiefs' association of the Pythian Sisters meets this Thursday at 2 o'clock with guests from Findlay and Forest. After the business session a playlet titled Those Husbands of Ours is performed, followed by social hour and a potluck supper to which attendees should bring a covered dish.

28 Graduate from 8th Grade at Our Lady of Consolation

A class of 28 boys and girls graduated Sunday May 25 from the 8th grade at Our Lady of Consolation School. Carey Schools Face Setback After House Vote on Funds

Carey district voices disappointment as Ohio House votes 103 to 20 for a weak school foundation bill. The Ohio Chamber of Commerce backs the measure, while Governor and GOP leaders cut 5 million dollars from the Senate version. A large Carey gathering marked Rev. Aloysius J. Jacoby’s first solemn mass at 10:30 am with a banquet in Catholic Hall prepared by the Sisters of St. Francis and parish volunteers. Poppy Day Helps Carey Sell 2375 Poppies

Carey observed Poppy Day on Saturday May 24 with 2 375 poppies sold. Mrs Harry Rook American Legion auxiliary president thanked buyers solicitors and Carey Times for publicity. A list names many volunteers who sold on streets and canvassed door to door plus local merchants who sold poppies.

Dr Perkins to Teach at LSU Summer Session

Dr Howard C Perkins Bradley University history professor and director of the graduate division will teach a seminar on the Old South and a Civil War course at Louisiana State University summer session. He will replace Prof Bell I Wiley who joins Army Historical Service. Perkins departs around June 15 with Mrs Perkins, and remains in Bradley briefly for registrations. He is a son of Mrs Myrtle Perkins of Carey Ohio.
