Valley Forge cadet returns home for summer break
Joey Dible son of Mr and Mrs J Dible arrived home Monday from Valley Forge Military Academy Wayne Pa for the summer vacation. Vice Admiral James L Kauffman honored at the academy on the eve of his retirement as commander of the Fourth Naval District. The retired naval leader who became president of Jefferson Medical College and Hospital on May 1 and Admiral Lewis E Denfeld chief of naval operations reviewed the cadets at a twilight parade. The review was followed by a dinner in Kauffman s honor in Lafayette Hall with more than 50 high ranking officers and civic leaders present including Major General Carl L Mullins Jr Second Army chief of staff Major Bernard Samuel Bishop Oliver J Hart and Dr Robert L Johnson president of Temple University. The academy also received the army certificate of proficiency at the Army Day luncheon in the Union League Philadelphia before about 500 guests by Lieutenant General Albert Wedemeyer.

The New York Central railroad won approval from the Ohio Public Utilities Commission to substitute truck service for some less than car load freight hauls on 122 routes. Attorney Examiner John Case noted no new competition for Ohio truckers. Carey Woman Fatally Burned in Kerosene Explosion
Mrs. Susie Ann Tackett, 47, wife of Arthur Tackett of near Carey, died in Findlay hospital from extensive second degree burns after a kerosene explosion in her home while kindling a fire. Firemen limited damage to the kitchen. Funeral services were held at Memorial U B church with burial in Spring Grove cemetery. She was born in Kentucky and survived by her husband, parents, and several children and siblings.
