Carey High School Award Day Honors Wide Range of Students

Carey High School honored students on May 22 for academics and activity. Department awards included American Legion Essay winners Betsy Newcomer and Jim Kitzler for freshmen, Peggy White and Joe Jacoby for sophomores, Ruth Black and John Heck for juniors, and Carol Putnam and Denny Brandt for seniors with county and district honors. The program also lists Kiwanis and Women’s Club scholarships totaling 261 dollars plus numerous class and activity awards across eighth to senior grades for track, basketball, football, vocal music, and perfect attendance awards.

Sandra Presar Earls Receives Bowling Green MA Degree

Mrs. Charles Presar formerly Sandra Hablitzel daughter of Ira and Mrs Hablitzel earned a master of arts at Bowling Green State University Sunday. She has been a student teacher since September and plans to teach this fall. Attending were Ira Hablitzel and Gary Hablitzel from Carey Milford Hablitzel and Nancy Vermillion of Liberty Center who earned a BA in education.

Park Games Available at Memorial Park Playground

Playground supervisor Donald Urban lists public use games at Memorial Park including basketball volleyball four square kickball pinball ten pins checkers Chinese checkers pick up sticks monopoly chess bingo ping pong badminton softball jacks tennis horseshoes and shuffleboard. Additional equipment may be added later and all items must be checked out and returned to Mr. Urban at the shed south of the pool.

James Lindsays mark 25 years with open house Sunday

Mr. and Mrs. James Lindsay celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary with an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. at their Greer Road home northeast of Carey. If weather issues arise, the event moves to the American Legion Hall. They married June 5, 1938, at Our Lady of Consolation Church rectory.

Methodist Smorgasbord Planned by First Church

First Methodist Church will host a smorgasbord on Saturday June 15 in the church social rooms. Adults 1.25 and children under 10, 65 cents. Menu includes ham from Ohio fried chicken Alaskan salmon Hawaiian meatballs Dutch noodles and more with all you can eat. Public invited.

Bowling Green Grad Jeff Hilty Earns Degree and Army Commendation

Thomas J. Hilty Jr. receives a bachelor of science in business administration at Bowling Green State University and is named Distinguished Military Graduate. He is commissioned as second lieutenant in the U S Army Reserve. The ceremony featured cadet Lt Colonel leadership and ROTC honors. Geological Society Tours NS&S Quarry and Plants

Dr. R. B. Vogel and Cyril Baker led about 100 Michigan Basin Geological Society members on a tour of the Marry and processing plants of National Lime and Stone Co. The visit, arranged by Ohio State University, explored 350 to 360 million year old rock formations and included a noon picnic at Waterworks Park.

Carey group weighs county planning for industrial climate

The Carey Community Development Corporation discusses town ship wide planning to attract industry. Wyandot extension agent Bill Mitchell says county planning aids local plans but interest is limited. Ferguson Family Attends Ohio Methodist Conference

Findlay College Graduate James Simonis Earns Magna Cum Laude

James Joseph Simonis son of Mr and Mrs James Simonis Crawford graduated magna cum laude from Findlay College with a BA in comprehensive social studies and history. He received the chemistry award at the May 17 awards assembly and was listed in Who's Who. He will begin as a librarian trainee at Brooklyn Public Library before pursuing an MS in library science at Pratt Institute.

Vanlue Relics Donated for Ghost Town Display

Mrs S D Stringfellow of Vanlue donates the log house from the Bright farm to Mr and Mrs Louis Galitza and their son Edward of Findlay for Ghost Town south of Findlay. Dorothy Bright Taylor of New York sent the large wool spinning wheel linked to Debra Moore Bright. The Galitzas plan to display the log house cabin with the wheel, as the Bright lineage spans seven generations.

Village Council Approves Street Work and Park Plans

Village Council approved this summer street maintenance plan including sealing and blacktopping on North, Patterson, Lake, and Grove streets and a state project on Patterson Findlay Dow and Findlay resurfacing if equipment allows. Waterworks Park improvements were reviewed with notes on catch basins, camper rules, and camp caretaker. Memorial Park gains backstops, fencing, and rubberized play surface tentative approval.
