The 83rd annual Carey High School commencement was held Monday evening June 2 1969. Reverend George E Cressman gave the invocation. Jerry Kitzler was class speaker. Superintendent Douglas Myers presented the speaker. Reverend Paul Jones delivered the class address. Principal Clayce Wentling announced the class. Board president David E Myers awarded diplomas. Benediction by Reverend Robert Klingel. Class motto: Success is the shadow of determination.

Don Fetters Receives Gift And Award At Kiwanis Meeting
Carey Kiwanis Club met at noon Monday June 2 at Bowl Era Restaurant. Don Fetters received a 19 year perfect attendance award and two gifts for his long service to the club and community. John J Leifheit, State Game Protector, spoke on stream and waterway littering with slides showing streams used as refuse dumps. He cited laws banning stream littering, noting penalties up to 5500 in fines or 30 days in jail or both.

The Carey Boosters Club honored awardees at the May 24 Banquet in Shrine Cafeteria. Leadership awards went to George DeAmicis wrestling Brian McKee baseball Larry Niederkohr basketball and Scott Spayd track. Class colors emerald green and ivory. flowers white rose. Lt Allan Thomas Helps Air Support Near Saigon
First Lieutenant Allen Thomas, son of Mrs Amos Risner and R. R. J. Carey, flew a two-ship F-4 Phantom mission 22 miles northwest of Saigon. The pilot, with flare aid, destroyed bunkers and emplacements, fired on trenches, and caused several secondary explosions. Thomas serves with the 12th Tactical Fighter Wing at Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam. He attended Carey High School and earned a 1966 BA from Keff State University, a member of Delta Upsilon. his wife is Mane Bowens.

Two Steers Reported Missing in Wyandot County
Delmar Grubel of route one Carey reported to the Wyandot County Sheriff at 7 35 pm Wednesday May 28 that two white faced Hereford steers weighing about 800 pounds each are missing. One steer was found but the other is believed stolen.

Potluck Dinner Launches Carey Shuffleboard Season
Carey Shuffleboard Club members gathered for a Memorial Day potluck served by the refreshments committee. Lee Yentzer and Henry Pieracini won first place in the season opener tournament beating Lucile Hoeps and Edna Rodgers. runners up were Denver Donelson and Harold Donelson over Lawrence Orians and Carl Kim. The Arch Donelson Memorial Shuffleboard Tournament will be June 6 to 8 with Amateur and Expert doubles draws. A Friday dinner at 6:30 pm at the Catholic Church cafeteria features South America slides by Mrs. Marjorie Schneider.

Gas Rate to Rise for Carey Residents
Carey residents will pay 0.64 cents more per thousand cubic feet of natural gas starting June 14 as Columbia Gas of Ohio Inc raises rates. The rise reflects higher supplier costs passed through the fuel cost clause, adding about 10 cents a month for the average customer using gas for heating.

Decoration Day Dinner Held At Wisner Home Wharton
A Decoration Day dinner was hosted by Mr and Mrs G L Wisner at Wharton after the Wharton Cemetery parade and ceremony. Guests came from Sandusky Cleveland Findlay and Wharton with Carey ties. Twenty two attended the 12 o clock meal then a lunch before departing.
