Hancock Board certifies Vanlue transfer to Carey for November ballot

Hancock County School Board certified the proposed transfer of Vanlue School System to Carey Exempted School District for the November ballot. Board member Ron Lenfiart abstained citing concern for county education unity and avoiding a single county unit, while Vanlue residents urged the change to improve local education and finances. Public hearing on the Vanlue budget set for July 23.

Hancock County Camp Meeting Set for August 1 1968

The 69th Hancock County Camp Meeting Association announces August 1 to 11, 1968 at the Camp Grounds with a Thursday evening sermon at 7 30 and a Sunday closing. Trustees and officers are listed along with membership stewards and honorary stewards. Evangelists and workers are named including Rev F J Goins and Rev Eldon Neihof. Missionary Day occurs August 8.

Shufflers Compete At Lakeside Tourney Week

The Carey Shuffleboard Club held weekly events with winners Mary Kimmell and Lester Metz over Carl Kimmell and Reed Steen. Consolations saw Gladys Yentzer and Irma Smith over Joe Schira and Elsie Long as Roy Schoenberger and Mary Pieracini led wins on July 16. Several members travel to Lakeside for the National tournament.

Mrs Cletus Courtad Heads St Francis Home Committee

St Francis Home Auxiliary votes a substantial sum at the July meeting to fund new tables and a supplementary electrical generator. The fundraiser includes a May luncheon and card party. 1,025 members contribute to aid the Sisters of St Francis for resident comfort. The Carey group provided refreshments led by chairman Mrs. Cletus Courtad and a national list of volunteers. Next meeting set for October.

Jack Rall owner of Jack Rall Restaurant 123 E Findlay has purchased the Knights of Columbus building. The K of C will remain temporarily while they seek new occupancy. Rall plans to use the upstairs for a banquet and meeting room.

Mr and Mrs Gerard Husted of Carrollton Ohio visited the Wisner home on W Findlay Street for a weekend steak cook out in honor of J V Wisner birthday on July 17. Guests included Mr and Mrs G L Wisner of Wharton who brought gifts to the host.

Mayor's Court hears three Carey cases this week

Ronald Brandy Eckman of West Virginia forfeited a $50 bond for assault in a menacing manner filed by Edward Tackett. James Martin of 114 N Patterson Street faced disorderly conduct charges that were dropped for lack of evidence. Gordon Morris of Medina was fined $50 and costs for disorderly conduct with $25 suspended if he left town.

A Rich ard E Powers Honda on E Findlay Street sustained 75 dollars in damages after being backed into by a 1967 Dodge driven by Russell Phillips. Lucy Powell received a Mayors Court citation for reckless operation following a collision with Grover Stoll's parked Chevrolet on E Findlay Street causing 200 and 150 dollars in damages respectively.
