Winners of top awards at the Carey Homecoming sponsored by the American Legion were Don Finsel Fostoria Josephine Row Carey and Winford Hack worth Vanille.
Carey Council discusses 1969 budget plans and fund shortfalls. They consider park and operating levies or a 1 percent city income tax, with the park levy approved for ballot. Mayor Peiffer notes councilman Jack Rall resigns and Ball may reconsider leaving.
Marilyn Barnett 23 of Carey died at 9 30 p m Saturday July 13 1968 at Wyandot Memorial Hospital from injuries from a traffic accident May 4 She was born July 27 1944 in Toledo daughter of William Darid j Lucille Florea She survived by husband Russell D Barnett children Brenda Kay and Russell Jr a sister Helen England and several half and step siblings Funeral 2 pm Wednesday July 17 1968 at St Paul United Methodist Church Fountain Cemetery Fostoria Bristoll Funeral Home in charge

Carey Development Company plans a 150 by 200 foot concrete and steel warehouse on North Patterson Street for Porcelain Products Company on a long term lease. The facility, fireproof and heated by gas, includes offices and rest rooms, a new railroad siding from the A C Y main line, and will store electrical materials with assembly and packing for railroad and truck shipment. Snyder Lumber Company builds it and expects occupancy in about sixty days.
Wyandot County Sheriff's Department probes a Tuesday July 10 crash near Carey. Everett Jarrett 34 of Fostoria is charged with reckless operation and DUI. Karen Fletcher 16 of Carey and Harry Poulton 50 of Canton are seriously injured.
Sergeant Richard E. Seifert Sr. earned a Bronze Star Medal with First Oak Leaf Cluster and V device for heroism during a February 2 1968 recon in force near a Viet Cong base camp. He exposed himself under heavy fire to rescue a wounded man and guided his troops to safety, while leading defense actions of the two infantry platoons and a mechanized unit. He is stationed with the 1st Infantry Division and resides in Eileen Texas with his wife Victoria and son Richard Jr.
A reader signing as M. D. B. asks Carey groups that can climb to take over the West park cleanup. They request removal of storm damaged trees, dead wood, and uncut snags of various lengths to improve shade and appearance.
Three cases heard in Carey Mayor's Court July 10 resulted in two bonds forfeited for non appearance. Dennis Collet and William Norgart had bonds for reckless operation and squealing tires respectively. Arden Dunlap was fined for failure to yield. Suber received multiple fines after a July 4 high speed motorcycle chase led to arrest near Carey.

Kiwanis International leaders Charles Wenner and George Saxder spoke at the Bowl-Era Restaurant meeting on Monday July 15 and outlined goals for the coming year. The club aims to build moral values, promote law and order, conserve resources, and foster international friendship through youth programs and community service.
Sergeant Joseph M. Fabian of Carey Route 1 received the Army Commendation Medal for heroism in Vietnam on June 4. He served as a platoon sergeant with Company A, 3d Battalion, 9th Infantry, in a ground operation near Lagion, Vietnam, shielding his squad under heavy fire. His actions reflect credit on the 9th Infantry Division and the Army.
Two Fostoria residents were injured when a 1963 Chevy sedan traveling north on S Vance Street near NYC Railroad tracks was struck by a 1968 Chevy from Tyme Airlines Columbus. Clifton A Emahiser of Fostoria reported the crash. The Tyme driver left the scene and will be cited for failure to stop in an assured clear distance and leaving the scene. A rear section damage bill is $150.
