Carey Board Approves Staffing Changes and Budget Steps

At the July meeting the Carey Board accepted resignations of Margaret Cressman and Tate Burkhart as classroom teachers. New contracts were approved for Geneva Bookwalter, Richard Myers, Steven Pieracini, and Edna Fields. The board reviewed library costs and budget projections for 1969-70, considering revenue cuts and discussing potential additional funding after the legislative session. They approved Project Read Title I ESEA for 1969-70, and set September 1969 attendance rules requiring 185 days and tutoring for any absences beyond 15 days. students must prepay for make-up tuition.

Electrician's Mate Third Class John M. Hilty of Carey, Ohio, serves on the USS Hornet, the primary recovery ship for Apollo 11. The crew trained for a week in the Pacific before the splashdown 1,038 miles southwest of Hawaii, marking Hornet's second Apollo recovery with a return to Long Beach expected in early August.

Carey School Board Meets With Auditor Beard

At a July luncheon at Carey High School the Carey Board of Education questioned Wyandot County Auditor Edward Beard about 1969 revenue reductions compared with 1968. Beard cited a drop from 40 000 to 50 000 in anticipated revenue due to lower personal property taxes and changes in the state foundation formula including expiration of a 600 per unit guarantee. The board will consider further revenue needs after state legislature action.

Carey Garden Club Tours 143 Year Old Melmore Log Cabin

Garden Club members and guests toured the 143 year old Melmore Ohio log cabin hosted by owner Ed Valentine on Monday July 21. Antiques illustrate settler life with Furnishings from the early Ohio era.
