Carey Swimming Pool forms family recreation group

A Friday July 7 meeting established Carey Recreation Association to guide children health and mind development, promote community recreation, and provide better facilities. A July 23 meeting will set duties for the water pageant, with a Mothers group supervising the baby pool and dues set at $1 per year to fund bats and balls. Train wreck near Paynesville injures hundreds

Mr and Mrs Houk among 2125 4 aboard a special train wrecked near Paynesville Minnesota en route to the National Retail Hardware association convention. About 400 injured, 16 hospitalized. Freight train backing into a siding caused collision at high speed. Many cattle hogs and sheep killed. The Houks escaped injury and planned to continue toward Seattle with delay.

Steer Disappears Near Carey After Pasture Escape

P. M. Tracey of north of Carey reports a two year old white Shorthorn steer vanished from a pasture at the Route 23 and Base Line intersection. The electric fenced field showed no escape evidence. Tracey notified the sheriff at Upper Sandusky on Thursday after a cursory search found no trace. no investigator had visited by Tuesday evening.

Mrs Richard Hunter tore ligaments in her left ankle after a Sunday evening fall on cellar stairs at 111 Newhard Street. She is staying with her parents, Mr and Mrs S W Pahl, while she recovers and cares for her children Cheryl and Stephen.

Arrest for drinking while driving yields fine

James Campbell was arrested about 1 03 a m Monday by the state highway patrol on a charge of drinking while driving. He appeared before Mayor G C Wagner at noon and was fined 50 dollars with 25 dollars suspended.

Fire destroys barn and farm outbuildings in Wisner area

A fire at the A. Gy Wisner farm near Carey, northwest of Caney, destroyed a 114 by 36 foot barn and corn crib with bay stored inside. Neighbors removed machinery. a bird dog owned by C. Harshberger perished. Fifty bushels of corn burned and heat scorched the garden. The family car stayed elsewhere and the loss is partially insured.

Carey Kiwanis Hosts Boys State Delegates

Carey Kiwanis club held a regular meeting with three Boys State delegates from Carey, Stanley and Jerry Hunter and William Bayes, who spoke on Port Clinton activities and civic government lessons. The trip was funded by the American Legion, Lions club, and Kiwanis themselves, and future meeting plans were announced.

Child bruised in pall from car

Richard Margraf, 24, son of Mr and Mrs William Margraf, escaped with minor injuries after falling from a car his father drove on S Sandusky street near Clay street in Tiffin. He opened the right rear door while trying to lock it as the car moved slowly and fell to the street. Mercy hospital examination found no serious injuries.

First 1950 crop wheat arrives at Carey Coop elevator

The first of the 1950 crop wheat was brought to the Carey Farmers Cooperative on Monday July 10 by Charles Collet of north of Carey. It tested 60 pounds to the bushel with very low moisture. All grain arriving before the Thursday rain tested about the same.
