Rene J. Dubois 24 son of Mrs. Gertrude Dubois Carey Ohio promoted to corporal at an advanced base of the 7th AAF as an airplane mechanic servicing bomber aircraft in constant action with the Japs. He earned the Asiatic-Pacific service ribbon with two bronze stars for battles in the theater since arriving in November. A Carey high school graduate he was employed by Porcelain Products Inc. in Carey.

Carey firefighters were summoned at 1 15 am Monday to combat a blaze in an apartment above Green's restaurant on E Findlay street. A Davenport, curtains, shades and window sills burned. Fire believed started from a lighted cigarette dropped on a Davenport.

Brothers Meet In Italy Three Frederick Brothers
Sgt Robert Frederick and Pvt Frank Frederick and Pvt Judson Frederick, sons of Mrs Leora Frederick of East Findlay Street, met in an Italian hospital where Judson is recovering from shrapnel wounds. Robert and Frank visited on July 6, noting it is the first reunion in two years and eight months. The letter from Judson, written July 7, arrived by air mail July 13, and reports Judson’s steady improvement and a hearty breakfast.

Mitten Brothers Reunite in England After Long Separation

Return From Boy Scout Camp Eight
Eight boys of Boy Scout Troop No. 13 return to Carey after a week at Camp Owens south of Marion. Wounded Niederkohr in England Hospital Recovering From Wounds
Mrs. Leonard J Niederkohr of Upper Sandusky reports that her husband Pfc Niederkohr is confined to a hospital in England after being wounded in France on June 30. He suffered injuries to the left foot leg and arm, was flown to England, and is improving after about 25 days in continuous combat with Co G 116th Inf 29th Division. He earned the expert infantry combat badge just before the battle. He is the son of Mr and Mrs William Niederkohr of route 1 Carey and has brothers and a brother in law serving abroad and at sea in the armed forces.

Word reached Mr and Mrs W H Huston that their son SiSgt Rex Huston left Italy on July 10 to return to the United States after completing 61 missions as a wing bombardier on a B 25 Mitchell bomber. Morris Wonder has enlisted in the U S Army at the Fremont recruiting station and will report for duty at Toledo today. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Ervin Wonder formerly of Carey, now seven miles east of Tiffin, and graduated from Carey High School with the class of 1944.

Fire destroys storage barn in Carey after blaze
A late Monday afternoon fire destroyed a storage barn on North Patterson Street in Carey along with damage to a nearby residence. The blaze also scorched the grain elevator and damaged neighboring homes, with estimates around 20 000 bushels of wheat affected and losses pegged at about 20 000 dollars. Fire agencies from Upper Sandusky and Findlay helped control the fire which investigators linked to possible bee nest burning or a car short circuit.
