Donor Drive Reaches Upper Sandusky July 17 18

Mobile blood unit visit to Upper Sandusky on July 17 and 18 drew 108 volunteer donors from the community. The Carey committee notes quotas have been filled for county population and thanks organizers and many volunteers including Mrs Free Scoarse, Boy Scouts, and many donors by name.

Eugene Hendricks shipped two truckloads of wool last week with one load to Boston and the other to Philadelphia. He has bought and shipped 75 000 pounds of wool this season.

Enlisted as student at Army air field training unit

Staff Sergeant Raymond J. Schira of Carey Ohio has enrolled as a student in the instructors' indoctrination unit at the Army air field in Galveston Texas. He served in the European theatre for three months and 11 missions. He attended St Thomas High School in Ann Arbor before joining the service in January 1948 and worked for White Haines Optics. He returned to the United States June 1 1944.

Ohio earns second in fishing licenses sold

Ohio ranked second among states in fishing licenses issued for the year ending June 30 1948 with 667 155 licenses, behind Michigan. Despite that, Ohio trails California Minnesota Michigan Wisconsin and New York in receipts due to a 50 percent fee. California issued 431 333 licenses for 871 157. Ohio 667 155 licenses for 414 484. Michigan issued 719 441 licenses for 738 068.

Local Youth Begins Naval indoctrination at Great Lakes

John T. Schira, 17, son of Mrs. Hilda Schira of Carey, starts initial naval indoctrination at the U S naval training center Great Lakes Michigan. He will receive seamanship, drill and naval procedure training while aptitude tests determine assignment to a service school or active duty at sea. After recruit training he will have leave at home.

A son was born Sunday in Mercy hospital Tiffin to Mr. and Mrs. Albert J. Reinhart rural route 1 Carey. A 7-pound daughter named Linda Louise arrived Wednesday morning July 19 at Bellevue hospital to S Sgt and Mrs Carl J Haas of that city. The mother is Louise Romig daughter of Mr. and Mrs S M Romig. WAC Sergeant Corrine Krupp Returns to Duty in Washington

Sergeant Corrine C. Krupp of the WAC, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vincent J. Krupp of near Carey, returned Saturday to Washington Pennsylvania after a 12 day furlough. This is her second furlough since enlisting in November 1942. She serves with the WAC recruiting station headquarters in Western Pennsylvania and heads a substation at Washington. Krupp also writes WAC publicity and broadcasts twice daily over station VPD.

Carey firemen battled three alarms in separate incidents. A farm home near Carey burned, occupants identified as the Smith and Roberts families. the farm owner is Miss Alice Seider of Upper Sandusky. Glenn Walborn to Reopen Pastime Bowling Alley

Glenn Walborn of Findlay has been discharged from the U S Army and plans to reopen the Pastime bowling alley in the Keller building. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Greve Walborn Sr of Carey and entered the Army on October 31 1942. Long hospitalized due to a leg injury he sustained years earlier, he was sent to England as a patient and returned to the United States for discharge.

Col Harold D Wooley announces three POW camps to house about 1500 German prisoners at Celina Bowling Green and Defiance in northern Ohio to relieve the agricultural labor shortage.
